Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder delivers a noticeable, iridescent highlight from a variety of shades. One of the many strengths of the pressed powder formula is that it isn't too soft, nor too stiff—instead it falls nicely in between, making it easy to distribute and control.

We also appreciate that the level of pigmentation is widely customizable. You can use a light hand for a sheer effect or apply it more strongly for greater luminosity and color payoff. Either way, the radiance lasts well throughout day.

The shade range includes some traditional highlighter hues and branches out to trendier options as well (such as the icy-blue "Twilight Tint"). The chromatic undertones are tricky to decipher based on the packaging alone, so we recommend experimenting with testers if possible (or at the very least, read the shade descriptors online).

In the end, Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder delivers exactly it promises—a luminescent glow that shines from all angles. If you're looking for a highlighter that stands out, this does the trick, and at a bargain price! Kudos to NYX for making the formula fragrance free.

Pros:
  • Delivers a visible radiant highlight for glowing skin.
  • Pressed powder formula is easy to control.
  • Offers customizable color payoff and luminosity.
  • Fragrance-free formula.
Cons:
  • It can take some trial error to find the right shade.

Brand Overview

Smashbox At-A-Glance

This small Los Angeles–based makeup line was founded in 1999 by a woman named Toni Ko. The company's Web site is vague about Ko's background, merely stating that she developed an interest in cosmetics as a teenager and wanted to create her own line of cosmetics. Ko's goal was to produce high-quality products at affordable prices, and that's the draw of NYX (pronounced "nicks") Cosmetics. We are pleased to report that, for the most part, Ko succeeded in her childhood dream.

It is important to note that this line offers a full selection of makeup products, from foundations to lip gloss. However, the only place to access everything NYX Cosmetics has to offer is their Web site. The Ulta chain is the largest distributor of NYX Cosmetics products in the United States, and the line can also be found at Target and Nordstrom Rack, but they carry a smaller selection of NYX products. The good news is that most of the few NYX products Ulta stocks are impressive, especially the powder eyeshadows, which compete evenly with eyeshadows that cost a lot more.

NYX Cosmetics website is www.nyxcosmetics.com.
