Milk Makeup's no-frills approach to makeup and skincare comes through again with its Lip Vinyl, a straightforward glossy lip product that does exactly what it says, no fuss, no muss.

Lip Vinyl comes in plastic squeeze-tube container with a sponge-tipped wand applicator inside. The applicator is somewhat wide but soft and pliable, and easy to use.

This delivers saturated color with only one swipe, along with a high-gloss sheen that eventually dries to a softer shine appearance. It feels cushiony and despite being slightly sticky, most will find it wears comfortably.

While this is in no way transfer-resistant (drinking coffee absolutely leaves a "lipstick ring" on your cup), it lasts a good four or five hours before fading to an attractive, even stain. It also holds up well without bleeding or feathering.

The only drawback is that this has a small amount of fragrance, which isn't the best for skin. It's barely detectable when you wear this (and it fades quickly so it's not "under nose" all day), but it's something to consider if you prefer your lip products unscented.

  • Saturated color from a single swipe.
  • Formula feels comfortable on lips.
  • Doesn't bleed or feather into lines around the mouth.
  • Fades to an attractive stain.
  • Contains a small amount of fragrance.

Milk Makeup At-A-Glance

Milk Makeup is one branch of the Milk media company, based in New York and Los Angeles, where creativity and innovation are at the forefront. That vision echoes throughout their skincare and makeup lines, designed to create cool, effortless looks with easy application.

Since many Milk Makeup products can be used several ways—a blush is a highlighter is an eyeshadow—and since even some skincare products come in solid, swipe-on formulas, their target audience is a savvy girl-on-the-go: one who’s not afraid to experiment with a “low maintenance, high concept” look. Milk makeup was created to travel well and often, since few products come in liquid form, and all can be applied without brushes, puffs, or applicators. Not everyone's ideal makeup can be done in five minutes in the back of a cab--but if you're that girl, you're a "Milk girl."

For the most part we’re impressed by Milk Makeup’s performance, design, and vibe, but their ingredient selection isn’t exactly worry-free: While Milk Makeup advertises their products as “made with the best possible ingredients,” many of them, unfortunately, contain irritants such as citrus oils. A multi-tasking, time-saving product isn’t worth your time or money if it also exposes your skin to troublesome ingredients—although some Milk products fare better in this regard, so do take a peek at our reviews!
