Perfect Reveal Lift Foundation is touted as a breakthrough beauty product "enriched with Gold-Flavo-Silk Tricomplex, a unique trio of ingredients proven to restore natural moisture, smooth the skin's texture and reduce fine lines and wrinkles in four weeks." Of course, Gold-Flavo-Silk Tricomplex is just the trade name used for marketing purposes, so we had to do some research to determine what ingredients it correlates to in the formula. It turns out that's just a fancy way of saying that this product contains hydrolyzed silk, olive fruit oil, and the cell-communicating ingredient niacinamide. None of these are unique to this product or warrant the price tag.
While those ingredients are good for the skin, only the niacinamide is present in an amount high enough to potentially have an effect. We're not promising dramatic results in four weeks like the company claims, but niacinamide can help increase firmness, prevent moisture loss, even out the skin tone and texture, and improve the skin's barrier function over time.
Unfortunately, there's nothing in Perfect Reveal Lift Foundation that can actually lift skin as the name implies, and otherwise it contains only an inconsequential amount of antioxidants and other skin-repairing ingredients and emollients. We also have to point out that the clear bottle packaging is a limitation because it allows the light-sensitive ingredients (such as antioxidants) to break down more easily, although you can slow this degradation by storing the product in a dark place.
We do applaud D&G for formulating this with the added anti-aging benefit of broad-spectrum sun protection via titanium dioxide (+ octinoxate for additional UVB protection). We also appreciate that they kept the formula fragrance-free.
Formulary notes aside, how does Perfect Reveal Lift Foundation stack up in terms of performance? That depends on your skin type. For normal to dry skin, the lightly moisturizing formula and dewy finish add a youthful glow. If you have oily skin or oil-prone areas, the thin, fluid texture breaks down more easily and can end up looking a bit greasy.
The pump applicator dispenses an appropriate amount of product that blends on seamlessly smooth to offer light coverage that can be built up to disguise more noticeable imperfections.
Perfect Reveal Lift Foundation's color range is broad enough to cover the fairest of skin all the way up to deep skin tones, so most people should be able to find a complexion-enhancing shade—someone at D&G took these shades seriously and did a great job!
Bottom line: This is a good foundation with sun protection and some added beneficial ingredients, but it's nothing revolutionary that warrants this kind of price!

Strengths: Luxuriously smooth powder textures; excellent bronzer and blush; an impressive foundation and concealer; outstanding cream eyeshadow and eyebrow-shaping pencil; a good volumizing mascara; excellent liquid concealer; most of the face makeup products are fragrance-free.
Weaknesses: Unjustifiably expensive in many cases; several mediocre products, including eyeliner, mascara, and foundation; nearly all of the lip products contain potentially irritating fragrance; a few old-school pencils that require inconvenient manual sharpening.
Italian brand Dolce & Gabbana is renowned for luxuriously crafted fashions, innovative designs, fragrances, and rich fabrics. The fashion brand’s foray into cosmetics follows suit, with opulent packaging adorned with golden accents and couture-like details. If that’s not enough to lure you in, D&G’s stunning celebrity spokeswomen will. With gorgeous muses like Scarlett Johansson and Monica Belluci headlining campaigns for their makeup collections, it’s hard not to get caught up in the seductive poses and the promise of prestige.
Just like their clothing line, D&G’s makeup products come with a designer price tag. That’s not to say they don’t have some great products—they absolutely do—but most of what you’re paying for is the upscale brand name, lavish packaging, and celebrity endorsements.
Most of D&G’s self-proclaimed “advanced” formulas tend to be quite basic in terms of any added benefit for your skin, though perhaps that will change now that the brand is owned by Shiseido.
Whether you find this brand’s prices acceptable or deplorable, D&G’s makeup line has its share of high points, texture being one of them. D&G’s powder makeup products offer a luxurious silky feel, velvety-smooth wear, and seamless application. There are several other standout products you may want to consider splurging on, too, including an impressive mascara, blush, foundation, liquid concealer, eyebrow pencil, and cream eyeshadow (see the individual reviews for details).
Of course, as with many brands, there are also instances where the products fall short in terms of performance, ingredients, and design. For those products, the high price point might seem unjustified and, well, it is! Nonetheless, D&G offers enough appealing makeup options to warrant a perusal. Just avoid the disappointments so you can be sure you’re spending your beauty dollars wisely.
Although not widely distributed in the United States, D&G makeup has a presence at some department stores in major cities, as well as at select Sephora locations around the world and online at Sephora.com.
