Cetaphil has branched out with a small collection of products aimed at men, and in the case of their Men Daily Face Wash, they appear to have recycled an already established formula. Ingredient for ingredient, the Men Daily Face Wash appears identical to Cetaphil's Daily Facial Cleanser for Normal to Oily Skin. In this case, "identical-ness" isn't a bad thing, as the Daily Facial Cleanser remains a standard, detergent-based cleanser that can work for most skin types except for dry to very dry skin.

Specific to what most men want, this cleanser rinses without a trace of residue, leaving skin softer and prepped for the daily shave routine (for those who shave after cleansing.)

We wish Cetaphil had opted out of using a masking fragrance, because it poses a minor risk of irritation (fragrance-free is the best way to go for healthy, strong skin). Although its contact with skin will be brief, to our noses this cleanser seemed more fragrant than those we've rated higher.

In the end, Cetaphil Men Daily Face Wash doesn't bring anything new to the table, but it's still a good option for a cleanser. At present time, the Men's version only comes in one size while Cetaphil's Daily Face Cleanser offers a larger size (with a pump) and packaging that we suspect most men wouldn't find off-putting—and again, it appears to be the exact same cleanser!

  • Won't irritate eyes or dry out skin.
  • Rinses without leaving a trace, which most men will prefer.
  • Contains a small amount of fragrance.

Cetaphil At-A-Glance

This familiar, widely distributed skin-care collection is manufactured by Galderma, the same company that markets the prescription products Differin and MetroGel.  Given the dermatology heritage of Galderma, it's surprising the Cetaphil line hasn't advanced beyond the basics. Yes, most of what's available is a safe bet for those with sensitive skin!

If you're in search of simplicity, this is a good line to consider. We should note that many of the formulas omit more complex anti-aging ingredients, but they can always be used alongside a serum or treatment of your choosing.

Strengths: Inexpensive; mostly fragrance-free products; affordable and widely available; offers complete ingredient lists on its website; the sunscreens offer sufficient UVA protection.

Weaknesses:A few formulas could be updated with more complex ingredients, but forgoing that there is a lot to like here.
