Whipped Lip & Cheek Souffle
Who doesn't like the idea of a beauty product with multi-tasking benefits? Convenience and performance are the main selling points of NYX's Whipped Lip & Cheek Souffle, and while it doesn't quite pull off its purpose perfectly, it does a good enough job that it gets our thumbs up!
Whipped Lip & Cheek Souffle comes in a container that looks a bit like an oversized lip gloss tube, complete with a sponge-tipped wand applicator. True to its name, this has a soufflé-like texture that's easy to blend.
Used as a blush, you simply have to dot this on your cheeks and smooth it over skin with your fingers (or a brush or sponge, if those are your preferred tools). The color is sheer but buildable, and has a soft matte finish that provides skin with a lit-from-within glow that isn't dewy or shiny, and can work on most skin types, even slightly oily. This wears well for a standard work day (about 8 hours) without fading or emphasizing pores.
When used as a lip color, this product doesn't perform quite as well, but still does an admirable job. That same creaminess that makes it blendable across cheeks translates well to lips, and application results in full, even color from a couple of swipes. While this sets to a semi-matte finish, it remains creamy throughout its wear time, which is between three to four hours (though we should point out, NYX does not claim this is a long-wearing lip color).
Lip & Cheek Souffle comes in a range of colors (from light pink to peach to deep red) that can work on fair to deep skin tones, as both blush and lip color.
The only con about this product is that it has an artificial fruity scent that's strong upon its initial application. It does fade after a few minutes, but if you prefer fragrance-free lip and cheek products—or have sensitive skin—you might want to take that into consideration before picking this up. OK, a partner to that con is that some of the fragrance ingredients are known irritants, but we suspect the amounts present aren't too concerning.
Aside from that minor quibble, NYX's Whipped Lip & Cheek Souffle fits the bill as a two-in-one, time- and space-saving beauty product, and at this price, you can easily pick up more than one shade!

This small Los Angelesbased makeup line was founded in 1999 by a woman named Toni Ko. The company's Web site is vague about Ko's background, merely stating that she developed an interest in cosmetics as a teenager and wanted to create her own line of cosmetics. Ko's goal was to produce high-quality products at affordable prices, and that's the draw of NYX (pronounced "nicks") Cosmetics. We are pleased to report that, for the most part, Ko succeeded in her childhood dream.
It is important to note that this line offers a full selection of makeup products, from foundations to lip gloss. However, the only place to access everything NYX Cosmetics has to offer is their Web site. The Ulta chain is the largest distributor of NYX Cosmetics products in the United States, and the line can also be found at Target and Nordstrom Rack, but they carry a smaller selection of NYX products. The good news is that most of the few NYX products Ulta stocks are impressive, especially the powder eyeshadows, which compete evenly with eyeshadows that cost a lot more.
