Water Blend Face & Body Foundation
If you're in search of a foundation that offers sheer to light coverage for a you-but-better complexion, Water Blend Face & Body Foundation fits the bill. The liqu-thin, weightless texture has a wet feel that dries down to a natural, skin-like sheen. Our only real complaint is the wafting amount of fragrance, which can spell trouble for skin (see More Info to find out why).
Water Blend Face & Body Foundation comes in a glass bottle with pump. The sheer, fluid nature of this foundation makes it easy to blend. If you're looking for buildable coverage, this won't comply: Even with multiple layers, the most you'll get is light coverage. On the other hand, it's nearly impossible to get a heavy, cakey look with this foundation.
The weightless formula offers middle-of-the-road hydration ideal for combination skin and other non-extreme skin types, and doesn't emphasize the appearance of fines lines, pores, or flaky dryness—no easy feat!
While it's not tenacious enough to be waterproof as claimed, you can expect this foundation to hold up decently through the standard workday. We were surprised that Make Up For Ever is trying to position this for the face and body—it isn't resilient enough for the body, where it's bound to rub off more quickly onto furniture and clothing.
That aside, the extensive shade range (20 colors) and you-but-better, skin-like results wooed us…we just wish the formula were fragrance free! The noticeable floral scent dissipates 30 minutes or so into wear—it's up to you whether or not that's a deal breaker for your skin. You can find fragrance-free alternatives on our list of Best Foundations Without Sunscreen.

Why Fragrance is a Problem for Skin: Daily use of products that contain a high amount of fragrance, whether the fragrant ingredients are synthetic or natural, causes a chronic sensitizing reaction on skin.
This leads to all kinds of problems, including disruption of skin's healthy appearance, worsening dryness, redness, depletion of vital substances in skin's surface, and generally keeps skin from looking healthy, smooth, and hydrated. Fragrance free is always the best way to go for all skin types.
A surprising fact: Even though you can't always see the negative influence of using products that contain fragrance has on skin, the damage will still be taking place even if it's not evident on the surface. Research has demonstrated that you don't always need to see or feel the effects on your skin for your skin to be suffering. This negative impact and the visible damage may not become apparent for a long time.

Make Up For Ever At-A-Glance
Strengths: Wonderful foundations; impressive options (and shade ranges) for powders, powder blush, and powder eyeshadow; some extraordinary lip glosses and lipstick/lip color options (and again, the shade ranges are remarkable); a few formidable mascaras; good shimmer options.
Weaknesses:Can be expensive; a few formulas contain needlessly high amounts of fragrance.
This Paris-based makeup collection traces its roots to theatrical and fashion makeup, building on the concept that a professional makeup artist not only desires, but also needs, every conceivable color and texture to create the broadest range of looks. Since 1984, Make Up For Ever creators Dany Sanz and Jacques Waneph have been doing their best to meet these criteria. Through the years, this line has gone from offering a tremendous array of colors in their own European boutiques to a more streamlined, "everyday" collection of products in select department stores and (primarily) Sephora, whose parent company, LVMH, has owned Make Up For Ever since 1999.
The color line presents an intriguing blend of classic, workable shades positioned next to some truly unique hues and finishes that only those involved with theater or the most flamboyant "anything goes" makeup artist (or diva) would covet. A major plus for this line is that many of the colors are densely pigmented, working beautifully on medium to deep skin tones. The drawback is that fair and lighter skin tones may find their choices more limited in a few areas of the brands ranges. However, for those who want it all when it comes to possible shades, this line more than delivers what it takes to please.
An interesting aspect of this line is that, category to category, there are mostly exceptional choices, with products that we found to be averagecertainly falling short of what we know Make Up For Ever to be capable of. However, if you are cautious of those few pitfalls (fortunately, there are an abundance of testers to experiment with at Sephora or the brands standalone boutiques) you will undoubtedly be pleased with those products that Make Up For Ever does best.
