Brand Overview

Velvet Mineral Pressed Powder Foundation is a soft, finely milled powder housed in a compact. It's the preferred alternative to AmazingCosmetics's Velvet Mineral Loose Powder Foundation because the pressed-powder version is much more convenient to use, it applies easily, and there isn't any loose-powder mess.

This silky, fragrance-free powder blends evenly and provides light to medium coverage. Those with normal to slightly oily skin will appreciate the dry matte texture, which is perfect for keeping excess oil in check. The subtle satin finish is attractive, but it may not be ideal for those with very oily skin who prefer a true matte finish.

As for the shades, there are options for light to medium skin tones. However, the undertones are consistently warm—like most color products from

AmazingCosmetics—and the darker shades may have too much red in them to look flattering on the darker skin tones for which the shade was designed.

One disappointment is that, unlike most mineral powders, this does not provide sun protection. Mineral makeup certainly isn't a must-have, but if it's your preference, there are better options available that at least include sunscreen so that during the day you will get the anti-aging benefits sunscreen provides.

  • Smooth silky texture blends well.
  • Dry, matte finish minimizes excess oil.
  • Provides light to medium coverage without looking cakey.
  • Fragrance-free.
  • Consistently warm undertones; no true neutral or cool options.
  • Expensive, given that this is just a good pressed powder; there are better and less expensive options to consider.

AmazingCosmetics At-A-Glance

AmazingCosmetics was founded in 1999 as a small online company that sold only one producta cream concealer. Co-founders Lisa Thurman and Sue Katz believe a great concealer is the ultimate must-have for in a person's makeup routine. AmazingConcealer caught fire, becoming a makeup artist favorite, and so the foundation for a beauty brand was formed.

Since the launch of AmazingCosmetics and the success of AmazingConcealer, the line has expanded its makeup line with products for the eyes, lips, and face, including the now-popular Velvet Mineral Liquid Foundation with their "AmazingConcealer Technology." Once sold only online, AmazingCosmetics is now available in Sephora and Ulta stores across the U.S.A.
