Brand Overview

Stratia’s Velvet Cleansing Milk has had a slight makeover since we originally reviewed it a few years ago and earns an upgraded rating as it’s an excellent, effective cleanser that skips irritants and fragrance for a simple, effective clean.

Packaged in an opaque bottle with a pump dispenser, as described, this facial cleanser has a soothing, milky texture. It’s easy to spread across skin and we found it does an admirable job removing dirt, oil, and non-waterproof makeup.

Stratia points out that it uses a form of water-soluble form of olive oil (olive oil PEG-7 esters) to cleanse (and it does, along with the help of a couple of surfactant ingredients as well). This also contains rice bran oil and aloe. Despite the oils, this rinses remarkably well, without leaving skin feeling greasy and positively not dry and tight. Instead, the effect is skin that feels softer and smoother after cleansing, setting the stage for the rest of your skin care routine.

If you have normal to dry skin, we recommend giving this cleanser a try!

Pros:
  • Does a good job removing dirt, oil, and non-waterproof makeup.
  • Rinses cleanly.
  • Leaves skin feeling softer and smoother.
  • Fragrance free.
Cons:
  • None.
Jar Packaging: No
Tested on animals: No

Velvet Cleansing Milk is a moisturizing, non-foaming cleanser that gently removes makeup, dirt and grime without damaging your skin’s natural barrier. Harsh foaming cleansers can strip away your skin’s natural oils, leaving your skin feeling tight and dry. Velvet Cleansing Milk is a creamy cleanser that utilizes a water-soluble form of olive oil to gently bond to grime on your face and rinse it cleanly away.

Water, Olive Oil PEG-7 Esters, Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Polyacrylamide, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Laureth-7, Ceteareth-20, Matricaria Recutita (Chamomile) Flower Extract, Allantoin, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice, Disodium EDTA, Propylene Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate.

With a tagline of Skincare That Works, Stratia (pronounced strah-TEE-uh in reference to the layers of the skin) is a no-frills, boutique-style take on skincare backed by scientific research. The brainchild of blogger and self-professed chemistry nerd and skincare addict Allie Reed from Los Angeles.

The line got its start in 2016 and so far is small, consisting of a handful of formulas. Overall, these formulas are effective and get it right, as they are mostly gentle, effective, and fragrance-free. We say mostly because there is one product containing a potentially-sensitizing plant oil, and another that doesnt contain the most effective form of its key ingredient thats available.

Otherwise, this has some strong offerings, and is at a mid-range price that means its good skincare thats attainable for many (though at this point, you can only buy Stratia products online).
