Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick
Stick foundations aren't a new concept (they're one of the older forms of foundation!), but they're experiencing another resurgence. Hourglass' Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick is a great example of this new generation of stick foundations, with a lot to love.
Like most stick foundations, this one is a swivel-up, though the shape of the stick itself is triangular rather than the standard circle. The design's supposed to help with application in spots like around the nose and eyes, though we found it didn't make a big difference.
What's important is that the stick is emollient enough (though not greasy) that it's simple to apply either straight out of the tube, with fingers, or with a brush or sponge. No matter your tool of choice, this foundation spreads easily across skin.
This fragrance-free formula is heavily pigmented, meaning a little goes a long way! If you're looking for sheer coverage, only dot on the slightest amount over moisturizer or primed skin. You can build to medium and eventually full coverage that sets to an attractive, slightly dewy finish (not the powder finish that Hourglass describes). That dewy finish means this is best for those with normal to dry skin, since those with oilier skin may find this highlights shine throughout the day.
As far as wear, this holds up remarkably well throughout the day without fading or creasing. Though it's not exactly "seamless" when you apply enough to achieve full coverage (it won't look like you're not wearing makeup at all), it's natural-looking, and meshes well with skin.
Now about that waterproof claim: We found that while this is water resistant, it was not waterproof. If you splash your face with water it will bead on top of the foundation, but anything more than that causes this foundation to smear.
Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick comes in a good range of shades for fair to deep skin, with options for warm, cool, and neutral undertones. All in all, this is a stick foundation worth checking out!
- Easy to apply.
- Heavily pigmented formula allows versatile coverage.
- Attractive, slightly dewy finish.
- Wears without fading or creasing.
- Good range of shades.
- Not waterproof as claimed.
Hourglass Cosmetics bills itself as luxury performance makeup, and for the most part that description is apt. The luxury aspect is apparent in the brand's packaging, which evokes sophistication and glamour. As for what's inside, while not every Hourglass product is a blockbuster, it has a number of strong products in its lineup, particularly its Ambient Lighting collection of powder makeup products. There are also some standout options for lip colors, and its Veil Fluid Makeup Oil SPF 15 foundation is a blogger and Beautypedia favorite for good reason (you can find out exactly why in our individual review). Hourglass does offer a small selection of skincare, but when it comes to this brand makeup is truly where its strengths lie.
