Brand Overview
This is an interesting hand lotion not only because of the amount of product offered (a 12-ounce bottle of hand lotion will last several months) but because it contains the antibacterial agent Benzethonium chloride as its active ingredient. Unfortunately, this ingredient has weak activity against microbes and germs, so it’s not going to keep your hand as hygienic as you may be hoping. This hand lotion isn’t a great substitute for alcohol-based hand sanitizers or simply washing hands with soap and water, but it can provide some protection from germs (Sources: 2008 CIR Compednium, Cosmetic Ingredient Review, 2008, page 39; and American Journal of Infection Control, March 2005, pages 67–77). Of course, this softens your skin and helps ease dryness, too which is something an alcohol-based sanitizer cannot do (lots of hand sanitizers claims to be moisturizing but there’s no way they can do that when the formulas need at least 60% alcohol in order to kill germs). Overall, this deserves a Good rating for its uniqueness and because it contains some good moisturizing agents to help keep frequently-washed hands from becoming dry, cracked, and uncomfortable.
7 hydrating moisturizers plus 5 essential vitamins. Effective germ kill. Kills 99.99% of germs in as little as 15 seconds. Intensive moisturization. Unlike alcohol, which can strip the skin of essential moisture, this alcohol-free formula actually replenishes with 7 hydrating moisturizers.
Gold Bond At-A-Glance
Gold Bond is a staple at drugstores due to their small selection of body lotions, anti-itch products, and various foot-care products. Though there are a number of Gold Bond products containing the potent irritant menthol (particularly its foot care and "medicated" products), in recent years Gold Bond has taken great strides and now offers some impressive moisturizers that are fairly priced, too.
