TurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara
Lauder’s priciest mascara gets its turbo-charge association from the battery-powered brush. The idea is that the small wristwatch-style battery (which you insert into the cap and plug in prior to first use) powers the bristles so they vibrate during application. This is said to enhance the application process by not only depositing more mascara in a calibrated manner but also quickly smoothing out clumps for foolproof results. The problem is getting the unit to work properly!
We went through two of them and couldn’t get either unit to work despite following the battery insertion instructions exactly. Nothing happened: no whirring bristles, no motorized sound, nothing to make me feel like the price was justified. Not wanting to deal with the malfunction any more than we already had, we decided to try the mascara without the “turbo” boost. As is turned out, this is an excellent lengthening and curling mascara that works quickly to produce dramatic results. There was some minor clumping, but otherwise lash separation was excellent, and the formula doesn’t flake. You don’t have to spend this much money (or even spend close to it) for similar results, but, inoperability aside, this is an option and further evidence that Lauder’s mascaras are improving.
Estee Lauder At-A-Glance
The history of Estee Lauder goes back to 1946, when the woman who created the brand (and for whom it is named) began selling creams and lotions made by her chemist uncle. From its humble beginnings, Estee Lauder has grown to become a multibillion-dollar company whose products are sold all over the world and advertised in just about every fashion and women's lifestyle magazine available.
The biggest compliment we can pay to the venerable Estee Lauder line is that their moisturizers and serums can largely be described as state-of-the-art. Though fragrance is often intrusive, but when it comes to formulary excellence culminating in products that give skin what it needs to function optimally, they are tough to beat.
When it comes to makeup, by and large the brand also exceeds expectations. Though there are some under-performing products (you can read more about them in our individual reviews), Lauder has a number of excellent options, most notably its lip colors.
