Brand Overview

Burt’s Bees Truly Glowing Eye Gel Cream is a great eye cream that treats the delicate eye area gently while providing it with vital moisture. In fact, it’s one of the best products the brand has ever launched!

Packaged in a protective opaque bottle with a pump dispenser, this eye cream has – as the name states – a gel-cream texture. It’s easy to spread and absorbs quickly with no greasiness. Skin looks and feels instantly hydrated and refreshed, and this works well both over and under other skin care products.

The majority of this formula features proven moisturizing ingredients that also have antioxidant benefits. Among them are mango butter, squalane, cupuaçu butter (similar to emollient cocoa butter), safflower seed oil, and jojoba oil. Prebiotic ingredient inulin is also on hand, but even better (and a rarity for the brand) – this eye cream is both fragrance- and irritant-free!

Though there are some other, more state-of-the-art anti-aging formulas available, this is still a very good eye-area moisturizer that will help improve the look and feel of your skin.

Pros:
  • Gel-cream texture absorbs quickly to a non-greasy finish.
  • Includes several proven moisturizing + antioxidant ingredients.
  • Packaged to protect its light- and air-sensitive ingredients.
  • Fragrance free.
Cons:
  • None.
Jar Packaging: No
Tested on animals: No

With the three-dimensional moisture of Eye Gel Cream, a rested and radiant look is always within reach. Our Hydrate & Glow complex is an intentional blend of proteins, humectants and oils—all things that your skin makes on its own to keep its cells plumped and hydrated. This complete formula boosts your skin's moisture above and below the surface, cushioning it and allowing it to reflect more light and appear radiant.

Water, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isoamyl Laurate, Inulin, Mango Butter Dimer Dilinoleyl Esters/Dimer Dilinoleate Copolymer, Squalane, Theobroma Grandiflorum Seed Butter, Polyglyceryl-6 Distearate, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Hydrolyzed Pea Protein, Propanediol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Jojoba Esters, Sclerotium Gum, Xanthan Gum, Polyglyceryl-3 Beeswax, Cetyl Alcohol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Lecithin, Tocopherol, Pullulan, Caramel, Lactic Acid, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Silica, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol.

Strengths: Inexpensive.

Weaknesses: Many products have potent fragranced formulas; several formulas packaged in jars, which compromises their ingredients.

With humble beginnings in the town of Bangor, Maine, Burt's Bees is a brand focused on natural-themed, earth-friendly skincare. Unfortunately, in many cases, this also translates to less than beneficial formulas as not all of the natural ingredients used are helpful for skin.

Many of the plant extracts and oils used in these products, including orange oil, cinnamon oil, clove oil, lemon oil, eucalyptus oil, pine tar, alcohol, lime oil, and balsam peru, are problematic for skin and present a significant risk of irritation or a sensitizing reaction. Both the intriguing philosophy and inexpensive products are attractive, but it takes more than that to establish reliable products that are good for skin. Its also important to consider the potential benefit (or potential harm) of the ingredients used.

There are some formulas to consider among the brands offerings, but some to be wary of, see our individual reviews on Burt's Bees products for more details.
