Tone Perfecting Serum B3 + Vitamin C
Olay’s Tone Perfecting Serum B3 + Vitamin C combines several brilliant ingredients that truly can give your complexion a fresher outlook.
Packaged in an opaque bottle and dispensed via dropper, Tone Perfecting Serum has a milky, fluid-gel consistency that slips over skin and sinks right in. The serums deliver a lightweight, imperceptible finish, compatible with any skin type.
As the name implies, the fragrance-free formula contains vitamin C. The form used here, sodium ascorbyl phosphate, has research indicating it is effective for brightening skin and evening out tone, as Olay claims. Its antioxidant properties offer additional benefits to keep skin looking youthful.
Adding to that, skin is treated to a high amount of niacinamide (vitamin B3). Niacinamide offers a host of anti-aging benefits, including its ability to refresh dull skin so it has an overall healthier glow. There’s also research showing niacinamide can help improve pore function to reduce enlarged pores—an added benefit that Olay doesn’t even mention (but your skin will reap the benefits).
Other ingredients such as glycerin and panthenol round out the formula to boost skin’s healthy, hydrated glow. We’re also happy to see the hydrating antioxidant hydroxyacetophenone, which helps defend skin free radicals.
Overall, Tone Perfecting Serum B3 + Vitamin C is a great find, and even if the price seems a tad steep for the drugstore, we think this formula is worth it.

Got the dull skin blues? Perk up with Olay’s powerful Tone Perfecting Serum! We’ve harvested the power of super-nutrient Vitamin B3 (niacinamide) and Vitamin C to refresh your complexion. One single drop has the power to visibly renew one million skin cells.
Starting decades ago with the now-classic Oil of Olay, this brand now offers an extensive range of skin-care products sold at drugstores and mass-market stores. Today's Olay lineup for those concerned about staving off the effects of aging skin is impressive, comprising their Regenerist, Pro X, and Total Effects lines. All of these (and several other Olay products) contain the B vitamin niacinamide. As you might expect, the claims made for it are inflated, but niacinamide is a very helpful ingredient for all skin types, capable of exerting multiple benefits.
In fact, perhaps the biggest complaint about Olay is that there are a number of repetitive formulas within and between the sub-brands make this line confusing and tricky to shop! Still, there is a lot to like about this drugstore stalwart, with its main drawback being a few formulas containing fragrance or other ingredients that have the potential to cause irritation.
