The Celestial Skin Liquid Lighting
How do we love The Celestial Skin Liquid Lighting by Kevyn Aucoin? Let us count the ways:
- It’s brilliant for creating a diffused, low-shimmer glow that can be intensified.
- The delicate lotion formula is a pleasure to blend, having just enough slip.
- The oil-rich formula hydrates as it highlights, reinforcing the lit-from-within look.
- The three shades are versatile and universally flattering.
- It’s beautiful applied alone, under makeup, over makeup, or mixed with other products.
Along with the list above, The Celestial Skin Liquid Lighting is also fragrance free and packaged in a sleek pump bottle for easy, controlled dispensing. It doesn’t take much of this product to produce an attractive glow, and it can be safely used around the eyes, too!
Although products like this are typically used sparingly, it’s a nice touch that the formula includes skin-helpers like honey, jojoba oil, and vitamin E.
The only drawback is that although Liquid Lighting feels lightweight, it’s deceptively emollient, so if you have oily skin it can end up feeling too slick (not to mention it will emphasize oily shine). But this issue is more of a caution to folks with oily skin to avoid using emollient highlighters than it is a formulary flaw of this product.
- Brilliant for creating a diffused, low-shimmer glow.
- Delicate lotion formula is a pleasure to blend.
- Hydrates as it highlights.
- Versatile, universally flattering sheer shades.
- Works well on its own, applied under or over makeup or mixed with products.
- Fragrance free.
- Oil-based emollient formula eventually feels slick on oily skin.
This pigmented, moisturizing emulsion adds radiance and a delicate highlight to the skin. Highlights are natural looking, never harsh and boost the complexion with shaping light. Ultra-fine pearls are combined with micronized spheres to create the look of healthy, candlelit skin. The finish never looks shimmery, glittery, or greasy, and the long wearing liquid illuminator formula works alone or mixed with your favorite foundation or moisturizer to create a customized, dewy glow. The weightless liquid highlighter makeup formula absorbs into the skin for a smooth, even finish. Vitamin E helps moisturize. Raspberry leaf enhances hydration and protects the skin.
Kevyn Aucoin was arguably one of the most iconic makeup artists of the 20th century. A self-trained, highly sought celebrity makeup artist and best-selling author, his work appeared regularly in countless fashion magazines, as well as his monthly column in Allure. Not surprisingly, his work has influenced countless makeup artists and YouTube beauty vloggerswhether they know it or notand at the time of his passing in 2002, he had just launched a small range of products under the Kevyn Aucoin brand. Although Aucoin left us far too soon, at least his products serve to compliment his lasting legacy.
Today, the Kevyn Aucoin brand continues with his motto that anyone should be able to experiment with makeup and feel beautiful while doing so. The brand's range of unique products reflects the emphasis on makeups role in our lives as more than just utilitarianit should be enjoyable, accessible, fun, and the outcome always rewarding. The approach is enhancing ones self-esteem rather than using makeup to cover up what you or others might perceive as unattractive.
Thus, the products themselves are something of an experience to usefrom their packaging (beautiful) to their focus on perfecting skin and mix of basic to bold color options. This line isnt for those who think of makeup as a chore!
The price points are higher, to be sure, but there are also quite a few exceptional and unique standouts that allow this brand to nicely distinguish itself in a sea of makeup artist-fronted lines. There are some shortfalls here and there, but overall, it is a range that is well worth experimenting with should you happen upon a Kevyn Aucoin counter at your local Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus. (Note: Kevyn Aucoin is sold online at a number of beauty sites, from Sephora to Beautylish.)
For Beautypedia, we have chosen some of what we feel are Aucoins best products along with those that are OK, but for one reason or another may not be worth the expense.
