Brand Overview

When it comes to sun protection, you really can't have too much, and layering various SPF-rated products is a great approach. If you're looking to touch-up sunscreen on-the-go, Tarteguard 30 Mineral Powder Sunscreen is an excellent way to do just that.

This powder sunscreen is packaged in a plastic tube with a retractable brush at the end for convenience and on-the-go application. Simply push the button at the end of the tube, and the powder dispenses through the brush.

As advertised, this powder provides broad-spectrum SPF 30 with a mineral-only formula that includes titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Though mineral sunscreen actives have a reputation for appearing chalky or white on skin, this powder's faint tint and light texture avoids that issue. The result is a translucent powder that works well on most skin tones (and is also suitable for sensitive skin).

Though this is a powder, it isn't drying, and works on all skin types. It doesn't make dry skin appear parched, and it does a good job tempering shine for those with combination or oily skin. It also has a slight blurring effect that smoothes the complexion, whether worn on its own or over makeup (and it does a good job setting makeup).

The only consideration for this powder is that it has a vanilla scent to it. This isn't due to the inclusion of fragrance; rather, it's the result of it containing both vanillin and vanilla extract, both of which are non-irritating. Still, it's something to note if you don't prefer scented products.

Otherwise, this is an excellent way to touch up SPF throughout the day, which we always encourage!

Tarte Cosmetics At-A-Glance

Tarte Cosmetics CEO and founder Maureen Kelly started Tarte in 1999, out of a desire to create a cosmetics line that would prove that glamour can be good for you. This comes in the form of products that highlight naturally-derived ingredients in their marketing campaigns, and occasionally taking swipes at the concept of synthetics in makeup.

This is ironic, as Tarte uses more than a few beneficial synthetically derived ingredients in their formulassilicones, synthetic fragrances, preservatives and on and on. However, well forgive them that as whats ultimately important is whether their products meet your needs, and to that we can say the brand excels in many areas at what they do.

However, a few products are a bit on the pricey side and there are a few iffy shades and textures to consider among their foundationsnoted in their respective reviews. A few caveats aside, most of Tarte's foundations, blush options, eye pencils and an ever-expanding range of innovative products demonstrate that color is what they do best.
