Super Pure is Glossier's version of a niacinamide serum. Niacinamide is a powerhouse ingredient for its ability to improve fine lines, wrinkles, pore size, uneven skin tone and boost hydration. With a more robust formula, this product would have easily earned our top rating, but even as is, it's still a good option.
Super Pure is packaged in a clear glass bottle* with a dropper top. This type of dispenser lets you control the amount to accommodate whether you are spot treating an area or applying over your entire face.
It has a water-like texture that feels nearly weightless and spreads easily. The lighter feel is particularly great for those who have oily/combination skin or who struggle with blackheads or acne. Of course, you can also layer this under a moisturizer if you have normal to dry skin.
While it's great that niacinamide is the hero of this formula, the specific percentage isn't disclosed. Glossier told us they couldn't reveal the amount, which would be helpful to know in a single ingredient-focused product such as this. Given it's the second on the ingredient list, we're optimistic about the concentration, but there's really no way to know.
The formula also contains zinc PCA and honeysuckle extract, both good soothing additions, but that's about it. We would have loved to see a greater array of beneficial ingredients that this product lacks. (Taking care of skin is more complex than just one or two hero ingredients.)
Consider pairing Super Pure with a brilliantly formulated serum or moisturizer to make sure your skin is getting the additional antioxidant and skin-restoring / skin-replenishing ingredients it needs.
*Niacinamide itself is stable in the presence of light, but as always with clear packaging, it's best to keep the bottle in a dark enclosed location (i.e. stored in the cabinet or kept in the box) to preserve the integrity of the overall formula.
- Dropper allows for controlled application.
- Contains powerhouse ingredient niacinamide for multiple benefits.
- Fragrance Free.
- Lacks other skin-replenishing/anti-aging ingredients to bolster the formula.
- Other options available with greater ingredient variation.
Glossier is the brainchild of Emily Weiss, whose successful beauty blog IntoTheGloss.com inspired the spinoff skincare/makeup line launched in 2014. Weiss describes the concept behind Glossier as a lifestyle beauty brand with a highly edited selection of streamlined skincare and makeup products.
We consider Glossiers makeup the strong suit of the brand. Their tagline of uncomplicated makeup staples that live with younot on you rings true with their simple yet impressive lineup of color products. Each is intentionally designed as a low maintenance option to enhance your appearance but not overpower it, allowing your natural beauty to shine through. By and large, the makeup products perform well, and while the shade options arent vast, were impressed by the flattering, attractive colors that theyve curated.
Glossiers skincare fares a little lower on the rating scale. While the majority of formulas are decent, they tend to be lackluster in terms of a well-researched cocktail of beneficial ingredients. Not bad, but not great either. Aesthetically-speaking, the skincare products stick to their reoccurring promise of dewy, glowy looking skin.
Were happy to report the majority of Glossiers skincare and makeup products are fragrance free, which is a rarity in the cosmetics industry and better overall for the health of your skin. (There a few products featuring rosewatersee individual reviews for our thoughts on that.)
To sum it up: Skincare-wise theres room for improvement, but if you like the minimalist approach and cool girl vibe, Glossier makeup delivers. Were intrigued to see what they come up with next!
