Super Pure Niacinamide + Zinc Serum
Glossier's Super Pure Niacinamide + Zinc Serum can improve skin’s texture and tone just as promised and with its reformulation, it now contains glycerin as a welcome addition. The overall formula is still a bit basic but offers properties to keep skin looking healthy and youthful.
Super Pure is still packaged in a clear glass bottle with a dropper top, but it’s now doubled in size (for the same price). Its water-light texture feels nearly weightless and has just enough slip to spread easily across skin. This consistency works great for oily/combination skin or anyone who struggles with congested pores and breakouts. If you have normal to dry skin, you can easily layer this under a moisturizer.
Niacinamide is the hero of this formula, coming in at a 5% concentration which is an effective amount to target the skin concerns we mentioned above. It also helps skin’s barrier retain moisture and can help reduce enlarged pores.
Zinc PCA comes into play as a supporting ingredient with skin-conditioning properties. What’s more impressive is that research has shown it is able to thwart destructive enzymes in skin that can lead to a wrinkled appearance. Antioxidant-rich honeysuckle, soothing allantoin, and replenishing glycerin round out the formula to contribute to healthier skin.
Overall, Super Pure is a good complement to any skin care routine and its aesthetics are better than other niacinamide + zinc products we’ve reviewed. Just keep in mind that because this comes in clear packaging, it's best to keep the bottle in a dark enclosed location (i.e. stored in the cabinet or kept in the box) to preserve the integrity of the overall formula. While the niacinamide itself is stable in the presence of light, other antioxidants can break down prematurely in its presence.
- 5% niacinamide helps improve enlarged pores, skin tone and signs of aging.
- Zinc PCA thwarts destructive enzymes in skin that can lead to a wrinkled appearance.
- Soothing agents help keep skin calm while the hero ingredients work their magic.
- Weightless formula is compatible with all skin types.
- Fragrance Free.
- Clear packaging needs to be stored away from light to preserve the antioxidants in the formula.
A daily vitamin and mineral duo of 5% Niacinamide and Zinc PCA that nourishes skin, for visibly smoother texture and improved clarity.
Glossier is the brainchild of Emily Weiss, whose successful beauty blog IntoTheGloss.com inspired the spinoff skin care/makeup line launched in 2014. Weiss describes the concept behind Glossier as a lifestyle beauty brand with a highly edited selection of streamlined skin care and makeup products.
We consider Glossier's makeup the strong suit of the brand. Their tagline of uncomplicated makeup staples that live with you, not on you, rings true with their simple yet impressive lineup of color products. Each is intentionally designed as a low maintenance option to enhance your appearance but not overpower it, allowing your natural beauty to shine through. By and large, the makeup products perform well, and while the shade options aren't vast, we're impressed by the flattering, attractive colors they've curated.
Glossier's skin care fares a little lower on the rating scale. While the majority of formulas are decent, they tend to be lackluster in terms of a well-researched cocktail of beneficial ingredients. Not bad, but not great either. Aesthetically-speaking, the skincare products stick to their reoccurring promise of dewy, glowy looking skin.
We're happy to report the majority of Glossier's skin care and makeup products are fragrance free, which is a rarity in the cosmetics industry and better overall for the health of your skin.
To sum it up: Skin care-wise there's room for improvement, but if you like the minimalist approach and cool girl vibe, Glossier makeup delivers. We're intrigued to see what they come up with next!
