Slip Shine Sheer Shiny Lipstick
The name of Fenty Beauty’s Slip Shine Sheer Shiny Lipstick pretty much says it all. This is a fragranced, sheer lipstick that leaves a shiny finish. It’s not quite as revolutionary as it’s made out to be, but it does wear comfortably as claimed and in true Rihanna style, comes in a mix of trendy and classic shades.
The twist-up, bullet style lipstick applies smoothly, imparting a cohesive layer of the sheer color for what the brand bills as, “no mirror needed” application. The buttery, balm-like consistency leaves lips feeling nourished and hydrated, and stays on for a standard 2-3 hours, rubbing off as you eat and drink in typical fashion.
You’ll find varying amounts of iridescence and shimmer across the shades which add to the shiny finish. With some, the shimmer is so faint you may not even know that it’s there, while it’s more noticeable with other shades, such as Vamps Who Brunch.
The added fragrance is the one strike against the formula, as it has potential to irritate your lips. In conjunction with the vanilla flavoring (which is non-irritating by the way), you can definitely taste Slip Shine Sheer Shiny Lipstick as you wear it.
The bottom line: Slip Shine Sheer Shiny Lipstick is a good option if you want a sheer lipstick that provides smooth, comforting hydration. We just wish it didn’t contain fragrance (see More Info for more on that).
- Provides sheer, comfortable color, just as promised.
- Comes in a mix of classic and trendy shades.
- Leaves lips with alluring shine.
- Fragranced formula poses a risk of irritation.
Why Fragrance Is a Problem for Skin: Daily use of products that contain a high amount of fragrance, whether the fragrant ingredients are synthetic or natural, causes a chronic sensitizing reaction on skin.
This reaction in turn leads to all kinds of problems, including disrupting skin’s barrier, worsening dryness, increasing or triggering redness, depleting vital substances in skin’s surface, and generally preventing skin from looking healthy, smooth, and hydrated. Fragrance free is always the best way to go for all skin types.
A surprising fact: Even though you can’t always see or feel the negative effects of fragrant ingredients on skin, the damage will still be taking place, even if it’s not evident on the surface. Research has demonstrated that you don’t need to see or feel the effects of irritation for your skin to be suffering. Much like the effects from cumulative sun damage, the negative impact and the visible damage from fragrance may not become apparent for a long time.

An ultra-comfortable sheer lipstick with the perfect amount of nourishing color and shine that is available in a range of easy-to-wear shades for all.
Pop mogul Rihannas made her mark in the worlds of music, movies, and fashion, and now she expands her empire to include makeup with Fenty Beauty, under the umbrella of parent brand Kendo. Taken from the last name she doesnt use on stage, Fenty Beautys philosophy is Beauty for All, with an emphasis on diversity and inclusivity in its products. Among its most heralded offerings is its foundation, which comes in 40 shades with undertones appropriate for very fair to very deep skin tones, and its highlighters, which include a blindingly bright 24-karat gold shade.
Beyond all the press though, does Fenty Beauty deliver? For the most part, the answer is yes, and both the foundation and the highlighters are solid products worthy of their build-up, along with a nearly-universal lip gloss that works for a wide range of people. Most products are fragrance free or contain minimal fragrance, and come in thoughtful packaging thats convenient and, in some cases, modular (some complementary products are magnetized so that theyre easy to keep together as a set).
