Brand Overview

Alpha Skin Care's Refreshing Face Wash is refreshing—for all skin types. Thanks to a good mix of ingredients and solid performance, it's a welcome departure from harsher cleansers on the market, and at a price that's budget-friendly, too.

This fragrance-free, somewhat milky cleanser comes in a plastic bottle with a flip-up cap. When it comes in contact with water, there's a slight foaming action that makes it easy to spread across the face.

Though the brand claims that the citric acid helps cleanse the skin, it's more likely included here as a preservative. Instead, it's the host of gentle cleansing ingredients that help this cleanser effectively remove makeup, oil, and dirt from skin.

In addition to gently cleansing skin, Refreshing Face Wash doesn't make it feel dry or tight once rinsed. Instead of a residue, skin is left feeling softer.

Note: This product was formerly available as Foaming Face Wash when the brand was known as Alpha Hydrox.

Pros:
  • Gentle cleansing ingredients effectively remove dirt, oil, and makeup.
  • Rinses without a residue.
  • Doesn't leave skin feeling dry or tight.
  • Fragrance free.
  • A beauty bargain.
Cons:
  • None.
Jar Packaging: No
Tested on animals: No

Refreshing Face Wash uses citric alpha hydroxy acid to whisk away make-up, dirt, and excess oil from you skin's surface and pores.

Water, Decyl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PEG-200 Hydrogenated Glyceryl Palmate, Glycerin, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, PEG-3 Distearate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Citric Acid, Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Idopropyny Butylcarbamate, Sodium Chloride.

Known primarily for their well-formulated AHA products, Alpha Skin Care (formerly Alpha Hydrox) recently got an impressive image update. Along with a new name, they've also revamped their products. Although the improvements were more visual and packaging-related than formulary-driven, the fact remains that Alpha Skin Care has a formidable range of effective AHA products, all with definitively researched glycolic acid. Kudos to the company for continuing to be direct about the AHA content (and pH) of their exfoliants, something most other lines selling AHA products prefer to keep a mystery.

Should the folks behind this brand choose to go back to the drawing board once again, they would do well to reconsider their current jar packaging if they intend to keep adding antioxidants and other beneficial ingredients to their efficacious but still predominantly basic products. Until then, you can rely on Alpha Skin Care for supplying AHA products that really work, and a few other surprises too, all affordably priced and readily available.
