Re-Nutriv Replenishing Comfort Creme
Like many cosmetic companies, Lauder won’t give up jar packaging. The cosmetics industry stubbornly sells formulas in attractive containers that have no ability to keep the ingredients they contain stable. It is well known amongst researchers and scientists that jar packaging is not only unsanitary but many beneficial ingredients breakdown in the presence of air. What a waste! (See More Info to find out all the problems associated with jar packaging.)
On the other hand, as is true for many of Lauder’s moisturizers, this is a well formulated blend of antioxidants, skin-repairing and cell-communicating ingredients, and emollients. The assortment of these ingredients is truly impressive. Regrettably, this could have been a beautiful option for dry skin if the ingredients were in the kind of packaging that holds them stable and effective once you open it.
One other point: This product contains mica a shiny mineral used in thousands of products claiming to brighten and enliven skin. Other than the cosmetic benefit you may see after applying this product shine particles don’t have anything to do with skin care.
- Beautifully formulated with an array of antioxidants and skin repairing ingredients.
- Richly emollient formula for dry skin.
- Jar packaging won’t keep the good ingredients it contains stable after opening.
The fact that it’s packaged in a jar means the beneficial ingredients won't remain stable once it is opened. All plant extracts, vitamins, antioxidants, and other state-of-the-art ingredients break down in the presence of air, so once a jar is opened and lets the air in these important ingredients begin to deteriorate. Jars also are unsanitary because you’re dipping your fingers into them with each use, adding bacteria which further deteriorate the beneficial ingredients (Sources: Free Radical Biology and Medicine, September 2007, pages 818-829; Ageing Research Reviews, December 2007, pages 271-288; Dermatologic Therapy, September-October 2007, pages 314-321; International Journal of Pharmaceutics, June 12, 2005, pages 197-203; Pharmaceutical Development and Technology, January 2002, pages 1-32; International Society for Horticultural Science, www.actahort.org/members/showpdf?booknrarnr=778_5; Beautypackaging.com, and www.beautypackaging.com/articles/2007/03/airless-packaging.php).
This deep hydrating, age-resisting creme nourishes your skin instantly and all day as it smooths the look of fine, dry lines. Lavishly rich and surprisingly refreshing, it fortifies skin against visible signs of aging.
Estee Lauder At-A-Glance
The history of Estee Lauder goes back to 1946, when the woman who created the brand (and for whom it is named) began selling creams and lotions made by her chemist uncle. From its humble beginnings, Estee Lauder has grown to become a multibillion-dollar company whose products are sold all over the world and advertised in just about every fashion and women's lifestyle magazine available.
The biggest compliment we can pay to the venerable Estee Lauder line is that their moisturizers and serums can largely be described as state-of-the-art. Though fragrance is often intrusive, but when it comes to formulary excellence culminating in products that give skin what it needs to function optimally, they are tough to beat.
When it comes to makeup, by and large the brand also exceeds expectations. Though there are some under-performing products (you can read more about them in our individual reviews), Lauder has a number of excellent options, most notably its lip colors.
