Radiance Daily Cleanser
This is a very good, mild cleansing lotion suitable for dry skin not prone to blemishes. Although the detergent cleansing agent isn’t great for removing makeup, the sunflower emollient picks up the slack.
The formula contains a small amount of jojoba beads for exfoliation, but you may still want to use a washcloth for a more thorough “scrub” and to avoid a residue.
This would be better without the fragrance, and, of course, the royal jelly offers no special benefit for skin, not to mention that even it if did offer benefit, it’s just rinsed down the drain when in a cleanser. The fruit acid complex referred to in the claims is a collection of citrus and sugar extracts that do not function like AHAs.
Note: This cleanser is listed as "Radiance Facial Cleanser" on the Burt's Bees Web site.
This light lotion cleanser removes dirt, oil and make-up revealing radiant, younger looking skin. The mild formula combines Jojoba beads and a Fruit Acid Complex to exfoliate and Coconut and Sunflower oils to moisturize and help even skin tone creating a more even complexion. Royal Jelly, one of nature's most nutritious substances, is added to help enhance skin's natural radiance.
Weaknesses: Many products have potent fragranced formulas; several formulas packaged in jars, which compromises their ingredients.
With humble beginnings in the town of Bangor, Maine, Burt's Bees is a brand focused on natural-themed, earth-friendly skincare. Unfortunately, in many cases, this also translates to less than beneficial formulas as not all of the natural ingredients used are helpful for skin.
Many of the plant extracts and oils used in these products, including orange oil, cinnamon oil, clove oil, lemon oil, eucalyptus oil, pine tar, alcohol, lime oil, and balsam peru, are problematic for skin and present a significant risk of irritation or a sensitizing reaction. Both the intriguing philosophy and inexpensive products are attractive, but it takes more than that to establish reliable products that are good for skin. Its also important to consider the potential benefit (or potential harm) of the ingredients used.
There are some formulas to consider among the brands offerings, but some to be wary of, see our individual reviews on Burt's Bees products for more details.
