Pro Foundation Mixer
If you find it difficult to nail down the perfect foundation shade and like the idea of being able to customize the one you have to perfect it a bit, Pro Foundation Mixer might just be your new secret weapon. These "mixers" allow you to adjust the color, undertone, and finish of any liquid foundation.
Dispensed via a squeeze tube, each Pro Foundation Mixer has a creamy consistency that mixes surprisingly well with your liquid foundation. Because each of the Pro Foundation Mixer shades are so different, we'll break them down individually.
White is exactly as it sounds, a pure white base that lightens your foundation, and surprisingly doesn't dilute the coverage. Depending on how much you mix in, it may lend a slight mattifying effect as your foundation sets.
Deep is a dark, neutral brown that adds a deeper tone to your foundation. It can end up looking grayish when mixed with lighter foundation shades so this is best for deeper foundation colors. Depending on your natural undertone, it can go too ashen so experiment with a tester if you can. Deep has a natural finish that mixes seamlessly with foundation, without diluting coverage.
Warmth is a burnt orange hue that works well for women of color who struggle with foundation that ends up looking ashy. It has a natural finish that mixes seamlessly with foundation, and again, without diluting coverage.
Olive adds golden-brown tone that indeed works well for olive skin tones. It has a natural finish that mixes seamlessly with foundation, we know we're getting repetitive but this also doesn't dilute coverage.
Opalescent adds a sheer, dewy, opalescent sheen to your foundation, but it does dilute coverage a bit. The overall effect is subtle on lighter foundations, but it will alter the color of deeper foundations, so experiment with a tester if possible
Luminous adds a noticeable, golden luminous glow to your foundation that alters the shade and coverage slightly. We recommend experimenting with a tester if possible.
Overall, these mixers offer versatility and customization that works great for those of who find themselves in between foundation shades or as an outlier for whichever foundation they're keen on using. Likewise, if you simply want to give your foundation more of an illuminating effect, Pro Foundation Mixer offers that option, too. Well done, NYX (and thank you for making the formula fragrance free)!

This small Los Angelesbased makeup line was founded in 1999 by a woman named Toni Ko. The company's Web site is vague about Ko's background, merely stating that she developed an interest in cosmetics as a teenager and wanted to create her own line of cosmetics. Ko's goal was to produce high-quality products at affordable prices, and that's the draw of NYX (pronounced "nicks") Cosmetics. We are pleased to report that, for the most part, Ko succeeded in her childhood dream.
It is important to note that this line offers a full selection of makeup products, from foundations to lip gloss. However, the only place to access everything NYX Cosmetics has to offer is their Web site. The Ulta chain is the largest distributor of NYX Cosmetics products in the United States, and the line can also be found at Target and Nordstrom Rack, but they carry a smaller selection of NYX products. The good news is that most of the few NYX products Ulta stocks are impressive, especially the powder eyeshadows, which compete evenly with eyeshadows that cost a lot more.
NYX Cosmetics website is www.nyxcosmetics.com.
