Photo Finish Foundation Primer Light
Photo Finish Foundation Primer Light may have gotten your attention if you have oily, acne-prone skin because that’s Smashbox’s target market for this fluid, exceptionally light primer that leaves a silky, refined finish. Although it contains nothing to combat blemishes and has minimal ability to (temporarily) fill in large pores, it does not contain ingredients that aggravate or encourage blemishes, which is a plus. The water-based serum is fragrance-free and contains a tiny amount of vitamin C. It works well under foundation, but if your skin is oily and you’re using a matte-finish foundation, this won’t provide a significant boost in terms of wear time. It makes application smoother, but that’s a tactile sensation rather than a legitimate need (your foundation should go on smoothly if you’re using a good one and taking care of your skin). Still, primers have their proponents, and this is one more to consider.
Two interesting things about Smashbox are that its name refers to the early, accordion-style cameras and that Smashbox is first and foremost a Hollywood-based photography studio. The company's creators, Dean and Davis Factor, have their heritage in makeuptheir great-grandfather was the legendary makeup artist Max Factor. The makeup, which debuted in 1996, began as a collection of trendy and fashion-forward colors coupled with a pleasingly neutral palette of foundations, concealers, and powders. Nowadays, there are exceptional options to choose from, but also some color products that fall short due to too sheer formulas or other issues noted in their respective reviews.
Where Smashbox has lived up to their Hollywood makeup pedigree is with a few standout formulas, including impressive lip products as well as excellent foundations, BB and CC cream options. Of course, the brand is also well-known for their range of makeup primerswhether thats a necessary step is up for debatebut nevertheless they do offer a few products in this category that are worth considering.
