Brand Overview

Alpha Skin Care's Nourishing Eye Cream earns major Beautypedia love for its generous blend of anti-aging ingredients that deliver wrinkle-fighting power as claimed! You'll find it's loaded with soothing antioxidant-rich plant oils (grape and jojoba), vitamins C and E to help reduce fine lines, and sodium hyaluronate to boost skin's hydration levels.

The opaque, squeeze tube packaging sweetens the deal by keeping the air/light-sensitive superstar ingredients stabilized and potent. The small needle nose applicator also helps control how the nearly-fluid-like consistency dispenses so you don't get squeeze out much at once. True to claims, Nourishing Eye Cream absorbs quickly and wears well under makeup.

Just be aware that while the formula is hydrating, the texture isn't as rich as what someone with dry skin may be expecting from a product labeled "cream." Don't get us wrong: It's still a great product, but those who need substantial moisture may find this too light. See More Info for additional details on why you may not need a separate eye cream.

That said, inexpensive, fragrance-free, effective eye creams aren't easy to come by—bravo to Alpha Skin Care for delivering the trifecta on this one!

  • Loaded with soothing antioxidants to reduce wrinkles.
  • Lightweight formula with sodium hyaluronate boosts skin's hydration levels.
  • Fragrance free.
  • Wears well under makeup.
  • Inexpensive compared to other eye creams on the market.
  • None.
More Info:Why You May Not Need an Eye Cream: There is much you can do to improve signs of aging around your eyes, but this doesn't have to include using an eye-area product. Any product loaded with antioxidants, emollients, skin-repairing and anti-inflammatory ingredients will work wonders when used around the eye area. Those ingredients don't have to come from a product labeled as an eye cream or gel or serum or balm—they can come from any well-formulated moisturizer or serum.

Most eye-area products aren't necessary because so many are poorly formulated, contain nothing special for the eye area, or come in packaging that won't keep key ingredients stable. Just because the product is labeled as a special eye-area treatment doesn't mean it's good for the eye area or any part of the face; in fact, many can actually make matters worse.

You would be shocked how many eye-area products lack even the most basic ingredients to help skin. For example, most eye-area products don't contain sunscreen. During the day, that is a serious problem if you aren't wearing it under a broad-spectrum sunscreen rated SPF 30+ as it leaves the skin around your eyes vulnerable to sun damage—and that absolutely will make dark circles, puffiness, and wrinkles worse. Of course, for nighttime use, eye-area products without sun protection are just fine.

Whatever product you put around your eye area, regardless of what it is labeled, must be well formulated and appropriate for the skin type you have around your eyes. You may prefer using a specially labelled eye cream, but you may also do just as well applying your regular facial moisturizer and/or serum around your eyes.

Known primarily for their well-formulated AHA products, Alpha Skin Care (formerly Alpha Hydrox) recently got an impressive image update. Along with a new name, they've also revamped their products. Although the improvements were more visual and packaging-related than formulary-driven, the fact remains that Alpha Skin Care has a formidable range of effective AHA products, all with definitively researched glycolic acid. Kudos to the company for continuing to be direct about the AHA content (and pH) of their exfoliants, something most other lines selling AHA products prefer to keep a mystery.

Should the folks behind this brand choose to go back to the drawing board once again, they would do well to reconsider their current jar packaging if they intend to keep adding antioxidants and other beneficial ingredients to their efficacious but still predominantly basic products. Until then, you can rely on Alpha Skin Care for supplying AHA products that really work, and a few other surprises too, all affordably priced and readily available.
