Brand Overview

First, there is nothing about this formula other than marketing that makes it unique for men's skin. If you're a guy reading this review you need to know that most men's lines leave dry skin wanting (and in fact needing) more. Going with "mainstream" brands is almost always a better way to go, especially if you're struggling with dry, itchy, or sensitive skin.

This entry from Nivea is stunningly basic, and likely contains enough alcohol to make it problematic for all skin types. Alcohol causes dryness, free-radical damage, and can hurt skin's healing process. Yes, this absorbs quickly but it lacks a good range of ingredients normal to dry skin needs to become smoother, healthier, and younger-looking.

Pros:
  • Inexpensive and generously-sized
Cons:
  • Contains a potentially irritating amount of alcohol.
  • Lacks a range of ingredients dry skin needs to significantly improve.
  • Stunningly basic formula
Jar Packaging: No
Tested on animals: Yes

Nivea For Men Express Absorption Body Lotion provides long lasting hydration that absorbs in seconds. Specially formulated for men's skin, the new ultra-fast absorbing formula gives dry skin immediate relief with no sticky feel.

Nivea At-A-Glance

Strengths: Budget-friendly; good makeup removers; a gentle scrub; some worthwhile lip balms.

Weaknesses:Several boring formulas; no products to treat breakouts or lighten skin discolorations; problematic toners; disappointing self-tanners; the anti-cellulite products are a joke.

Nivea is a globally known brand owned by Beiersdorf, the same company behind department-store brand La Prairie and drugstore mainstay Eucerin. Among those three brands, Nivea's product selection is the weakest (which isn't saying much, because none of these lines have much of anything to offer skin). For Nivea, uninspired formulas abound, presenting limited options unless you have normal to dry skin, and even those have exceptionally inelegant formulas. The enduring popularity of this line has more to do with advertising and perhaps tradition (it has been around a long time) than with what any researcher would consider state-of-the-art.

Inmid-2010 Nivea re-launched most of their Visage (facial care) products on the web site drugstore.com. These products present a few well formulated, inexpensive options that are worth your attention. For more information about Nivea, owned by Beiersdorf, call (800) 227-4703 or visit www.nivea.com.
