Natural Acne Solutions Pore Refining Scrub
This topical scrub is a mess on several counts. The main issue is that it contains several plant oils that are inappropriate for anyone struggling with blemishes.
Secondary issues include the thick, creamy texture and the fact that it doesn’t rinse without leaving a waxy film on skin (it really feels awful over oily areas).
The active ingredient is salicylic acid, but it has minimal chance of being helpful due to this scrub’s brief contact with skin (not to mention it has all those oils to work through before it can touch your skin). From any direction, this is a serious problem for blemish-prone skin, wrapped in the hope that going “natural” will take better care of you.
This deep cleansing scrub is clinically proven to exfoliate dead skin cells while refining the appearance of pores without over-drying or irritating skin. Salicylic Acid, derived naturally from Willow Bark Extract, penetrates deep into pores to help reduce acne and prevent future breakouts. Formulated with Jojoba Beads and a natural Fruit Acid Complex, to provide gentle exfoliation resulting in refined, clear and smooth skin, naturally.
Weaknesses: Many products have potent fragranced formulas; several formulas packaged in jars, which compromises their ingredients.
With humble beginnings in the town of Bangor, Maine, Burt's Bees is a brand focused on natural-themed, earth-friendly skincare. Unfortunately, in many cases, this also translates to less than beneficial formulas as not all of the natural ingredients used are helpful for skin.
Many of the plant extracts and oils used in these products, including orange oil, cinnamon oil, clove oil, lemon oil, eucalyptus oil, pine tar, alcohol, lime oil, and balsam peru, are problematic for skin and present a significant risk of irritation or a sensitizing reaction. Both the intriguing philosophy and inexpensive products are attractive, but it takes more than that to establish reliable products that are good for skin. Its also important to consider the potential benefit (or potential harm) of the ingredients used.
There are some formulas to consider among the brands offerings, but some to be wary of, see our individual reviews on Burt's Bees products for more details.
