Brand Overview

Tarte’s Maracuja Tinted Hydrator delivers lightweight, “your skin but better” coverage that slightly blurs the appearance of imperfections, while adding a pinch of hydration. It’s especially great for those days that you want just a bit of help evening out your skin tone, without applying a full face of makeup.

We love how easily this tinted moisturizer blends, leaving a satin finish that looks natural whether you fall on the dry or oily end of the spectrum (meaning it isn’t overly shiny, greasy, or heavy). This is particularly great for people with combination skin since it offers nicely balanced hydration (those with very dry skin may find they need a bit more than what this offers). Just keep in mind that because this doesn’t contain sunscreen, you’d need to pair it with some form of sun protection during the day.

Launched with 20 shades from light to deep, Maracuja Tinted Hydrator’s sheerness makes it more likely to be adaptable across a wide variety of skin tones. At the time of this review, we could only get our hands on one of the shades, so we hope you’ll add your experience to the community reviews section.

In terms of the beneficial ingredients, the namesake maracuja (Passiflora edulis oil) offers skin-soothing, antioxidant properties and is a good source of omega fatty acids. You’re not getting a ton of it here, but some is absolutely better than none. At the forefront of the fragrance-free formula you’ll find a greater concentration of replenishing/hydrating ingredients. Additional antioxidants are on board as well.

Pro tip: It’s best to keep this stored in a drawer (away from light exposure) since the squeeze tube packaging’s see-through bottom half lets light in, which can break down the antioxidants more rapidly.

All told, Maracuja Tinted Hydrator’s strength lies in its ability to enhances skin’s appearance in a natural, effortless way. The extra beneficial ingredients are just the cherry on top. Great job, Tarte!

Tarte Cosmetics At-A-Glance

Tarte Cosmetics CEO and founder Maureen Kelly started Tarte in 1999, out of a desire to create a cosmetics line that would prove that glamour can be good for you. This comes in the form of products that highlight naturally-derived ingredients in their marketing campaigns, and occasionally taking swipes at the concept of synthetics in makeup.

This is ironic, as Tarte uses more than a few beneficial synthetically derived ingredients in their formulassilicones, synthetic fragrances, preservatives and on and on. However, well forgive them that as whats ultimately important is whether their products meet your needs, and to that we can say the brand excels in many areas at what they do.

However, a few products are a bit on the pricey side and there are a few iffy shades and textures to consider among their foundationsnoted in their respective reviews. A few caveats aside, most of Tarte's foundations, blush options, eye pencils and an ever-expanding range of innovative products demonstrate that color is what they do best.
