Brand Overview

If you tend to think that inexpensive cosmetics can't outperform their pricey competitors, e.l.f. Cosmetics' Makeup Mist & Set is about to prove you wrong. Whereas most makeup setting sprays are little more than film-forming agents and water, this formula includes a bevy of anti-aging ingredients and has a decent makeup setting formula. However, despite the addition of these extra beneficial ingredients other companies leave out, these ingredients won't have any benefit when sprayed over makeup. Anti-aging ingredients can't penetrate makeup and they need to absorb to have an impact.

As a makeup setting spray it still hits the target and it's fragrance-free. This type of product isn't a must for everyone, but some people find it a helpful addition, and at this price, it's hard to not be curious!

When held 12-16 inches away as instructed, Makeup Mist & Set produces a fine, non-aerosol mist that lightly settles on skin. You can either let it dry naturally or blot—either way it sets to an imperceptible, non-tacky finish.

For its setting power, the formula contains an ingredient similar to what you'd find in hairspray, which can potentially help keep makeup from slipping and fading. The light mist of hydration also works well for refreshing makeup on-the-go, as it saves you the step of having to remove your makeup entirely, allowing you to re-blend makeup that's gone beyond its wear time.

Considering many makeup setting sprays cost 10 times as much and aren't as well-formulated, Makeup Mist & Set stands out as a beauty bargain to behold! Well done e.l.f.!

e.l.f. At-A-Glance

e.l.f. (it stands for which stands for Eyes, Lips, Face) was founded by Scott Vincent Borba and Joseph Shamah. The story goes that one day Borba was shopping in a dollar store and noticed women dressed in designer clothing and sporting designer handbags loading up their baskets with inexpensive nail polish, eye pencils, and lip balm. He took note of the products being sold in such stores and quickly decided he could offer products of even higher quality at the same competitive price. His idea paid off, as e.l.f. has enjoyed continued success and increased distribution online and in retail stores.

For a line offering many products for just a dollar (OK, there are plenty that cost $3 and $5, too), there are a surprising number of hits in the mix (especially the makeup brushes). True, not everything is going to be as luxurious or innovative as some higher-end brands, but overall you're likely to be impressed with what they developed for so little money, and you may just find some beauty bargains!
