Love Flush Long-Lasting 16-Hour Blush
Too Faced promises high-impact wear that goes the distance with Love Flush Long-Lasting 16-Hour Blush, and we're happy to report that for the most part, that's true! While the 16-hour claim may be a bit of a stretch, most of the shades impart richly pigmented color that leaves cheeks blushed throughout the average office day, and then some. There are a couple downfalls (more on those in a second), but overall this blush makes good on its promises.
Too Faced channeled their inner romantic when creating Love Flush Blush, as each shade comes in a heart-shaped, mirrored compact and is named after a love song ("I Will Always Love You," etc.). While the packaging is cute, it's not very practical—it took some prying open with our nails for the first few tries, though eventually we broke it in.
Fun and games aside, if you're looking for strong color payoff, that's where this fragrance-free blush excels with shades like "How Deep is Your Love?" and "Your Love is King." Using a light hand and a fluffy brush, the finely milled pressed powder texture delivers a smooth pop of high impact color. We repeat, use a light hand—you really can overdo it and as a result, end up with uneven looking blush.
The majority of the shades have a matte to light sheen finish at most. There are a couple shades that go on softer and more shimmery ("Baby Love") or glittery ("Justify My Love") and as a side effect, those don't offer as long lasting of results. The shimmer of Justify My Love, in particular, looks less refined than the other shades with noticeable specks of glitter.
We'd also be remiss not to mention that the colors look different when applied on as opposed to how they appear in the packaging or as depicted online—some ended up appearing cooler or warmer than their appearance would suggest. It's definitely a good idea to swatch the shades in store to make sure you can find one that complements your skin tone. This isn't the most versatile shade range (i.e. it won't work for everyone) due to their varying undertones.
In the end, Love Flush Long-Lasting 16-Hour Blush is not a foolproof option, but it earns our praise for delivering the rich pigmentation and long-lasting wear as promised (for most shades anyway). If you can find a color you like, it's worth a try!
- Majority of shades offer high impact color in one swipe.
- Keeps cheeks flushed for the average workday and then some.
- Fragrance-free, finely milled pressed powder.
- The rich pigmentation is easy to overdo.
- A couple shades perform less impressively than the others.
Too Faced At-A-Glance
Too Faced is the brainchild of Jerrod Blandino, who got his start in the cosmetics industry as a department store makeup artist in the '90s. According to brand lore, Blandino's clients sought him out for his lighthearted, playful approach to beauty, which led him to create his own line. Soon he teamed up with business partner Jeremy Johnson, and launched Too Faced. The brand caught on quickly, getting distribution in stores like Nordstorm and Sephora.
Too Faced's biggest hook is its emphasis on a feminine persona that seeks to make beauty seem fun. There are several food- and scent-themed palettes, and many products bear trendy or cheeky monikers. The brand offers some top-notch performers, including some great powder products and its top-selling Better Than Sex Mascara, though there are some mis-steps as well (see our individual reviews for more information).
Note: In November 2016, cosmetics giant Estee Lauder bought Too Faced for $1.45 billion. Despite the fact that Estee Lauder sells products in China, where animal testing is in some cases required by law, Too Faced's founders say they maintain their commitment to no animal testing (and there are no plans so far to sell Too Faced products in China).
