Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner
Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner is a longstanding Bobbi Brown favorite and for good reason: This fragrance-free eyeliner comes in an extensive (20+!) array of shades to suit just about anyone's taste, and true to name, it sets to a long-wearing, budge-proof finish!
Housed in a small gloss pot, Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner has a gel-cream texture that you apply with a brush (sold separately, or you can use your own eyeliner brush). It goes on smoothly without skipping or dragging, a trait which makes lining the eyes a breeze. More to love, the formula holds up to its claims of water/sweat-resistance for worry-free wear, even during the heat and humidity of summer.
Although all of the shades offer saturated pigmentation, the ones without shimmer apply the richest. The selection of shades are often changed up seasonally, but the core assortment of blacks, charcoal brown, and steely grays remain staples and are perfect!
You'll notice some shades are categorized as "Double Lining" on Bobbi Brown's website, but after speaking to the brand's reps, we discovered there is nothing different about the formula. "Double lining" simply refers to a technique that Brown uses when applying a gel-cream eyeliner and then layering a powder over it to intensify and/or set the color. This is an option, but one we find superfluous given how tenacious and dramatic Brown's gel eyeliner can look on its own.
In the end, Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner earns accolades as an extraordinary product that not only lasts the workday through, but comes in a gorgeous assortment of colors. Thanks Bobbi!
Note: As with all such eyeliners, the formula is prone to drying out if you aren't good about recapping the jar tightly after each use.
- Shades to suit any skin tone, whether you prefer classic mattes or shimmer.
- Lasts throughout the workday without smudging, fading, or creasing.
- Goes on smoothly + offers rich pigmentation.
- Water/sweat-resistant formula (and it's fragrance-free)!
Bobbi Brown At-A-Glance
Strengths: A good cleanser and eye makeup removers; some impressive foundations, with options for all skin types and preferences; very good blushes and eyeshadows (powder and cream); several top-notch mascaras; mostly excellent brushes.
Weaknesses: Multiple moisturizers in jar packaging, otherwise great products hindered with irritating fragrant oils or fragrance components.
It all began with lipsticks. In 1991, New York based makeup artist Bobbi Brown debuted a collection of ten lipsticks at Bergdorf Goodman, expecting to sell about one hundred units in a month. She sold more than that the first day. From there, it's been mostly success after success, as Brown launched her classic foundation stick, wrote her first book, Bobbi Brown Beauty The Ultimate Beauty Resource, and enjoyed continued attention as an in-demand makeup artist and beauty educator.
Today, Bobbi Brown's makeup that continues to excel with superior foundations, true matte blushes and eyeshadows, and with all of the other basics that are essential to anyones makeup wardrobe. It isn't the least bit surprising that this makeup collection continues to do so well, because for many it's one-stop shopping that combines classic makeup application techniques with enough fun-yet-functional products to keep customer's interest piqued season to season.
Turning to the skincare collection, there are a few excellent formulas, but unfortunately, many are packaged in a jar, which means their beneficial ingredients are rendered useless due to air exposure (and bacterial contamination from spatulas or fingers). In addition, some suffer from the inclusion of potent fragrant essential oils. Those that should be avoided are noted in their respective reviews. That aside, color is without a doubt Bobbi Brown's strong pointbut you will find a few sleeper hits among the selection of skincare products.
