Lipstick Light Brights
Just like Three Custom Color’s other lipsticks, Light Brights applies smoothly and evenly. Although the moisture wears away, the subtle stain lasts much longer. Rather than an opaque cream finish, these are very sheer lipsticks whose DayGlo shades (think Madonna in the ‘80s) brighten your own natural lip color without overpowering it or leaving too much of a high-shine finish. Considering that the shades appear absolutely fluorescent in their tubes, the effect is surprisingly understated. Although each of the four shades are versatile, Palladium (fuchsia) and Danceteria (neon coral) are especially fun.
Three Custom Color At-A-Glance
Strengths: The only company in this book that offers custom color matching for discontinued products; first-rate customer service; the Ready-to-Wear line features several outstanding products; very good makeup brushes; refillable compacts.
Weaknesses: Customization service is expensive; the cream blush goes on too sheer; eye and lip pencils still require routine sharpening.
The number "three" in this line's name refers to the three people who founded and continue to manage this unique line. Since 1997, Three Custom Color Specialists have excelled in what they dubbed a Custom Blending Service, of which their lipstick-matching prowess has earned them considerable recognition. Send them a color swatch or the last sliver of a favorite discontinued lipstick and they will duplicate it so accurately you will be stunned. And if you love the results as much as we suspect you will (particularly if a favorite lipstick shade is no longer available) you'll be impressed that Three Custom keeps everything they did to recreate the shade on file, so reordering is easy. What began as a lipstick color-matching service has expanded over the years to include several other makeup products. In addition to the custom Lipstick ($50 for two tubes), you may customize Creme to Powder Blush ($37.50; $20.50 for additional shades, which must be ordered at the same time as the original price shade), Eyeshadow Singles, Brow Powder, or Powder Eyeliner ($36.50; $19.50 for additional shades, which must be ordered at the same time as the original price shade), Creme Concealer ($36.50; $19.50 for additional shades, which must be ordered at the same time as the original price shade), and Face Powder ($47.50 for Loose; $28.50 for additional shades, which must be ordered at the same time as the original price shade; $36.50 for Pressed; $19.50 for additional shades, which must be ordered at the same time as the original price shade). With the exception of the lipsticks (where they can match any formula), the products above use Three Custom's base formulas and from there create a custom shade and finish per your instructions.
Although these customized options are pricey, the personalization for every product is beautifully executed, right down to the postage-paid envelope you receive to send in a remnant or piece of fabric that represents your ideal color. All of the custom items may be further modified with your choice of finish and level or type of shimmer. All told, Three Custom continues to offer a remarkable service that is made even better by their attention to detail and the enthusiasm of the Three Custom Color team of professionals. Furthermore, all custom colors are 100% guaranteed, and will be redone (at no additional charge) in the unlikely event that they don't get it just right the first time. In addition to their Custom Color menu, you can also choose from a range of several other makeup essentials, featuring 250 never-to-be-discontinued ready-to-wear colors.
