Lidstar is Glossier's take on cream eyeshadows, and we're happy to report that it's great option that provides a bit of glam on the go.
Lidstar comes in a clear test-tube with a sponge-tipped wand that's affixed to the cap. Application is easy: just dab onto lids and smooth with fingers or the wand's tip.
The fragrance-free formula is smooth and blends effortlessly. It remains pliable for some time after you put it on, so you can perfect your look without worrying about it drying lightning fast.
Lidstar comes in a handful of shades, including a warm bronze, champagne, and lavender. As the brand states, the color is quite sheer, and each shade has a slight sparkle as well, though it isn't overwhelming.
This wears well throughout a full day, with no fading and minimal creasing (it creases ever-so-slightly if you have oily lids, but that can be mitigated with a quick dab of your fingers or by applying a good eyeshadow primer before Lidstar). All told, it's a convenient and attractive product that adds a touch of sheer shimmer to when you want something more than a total "no makeup-makeup look."
- Easy to apply and blend.
- Attractive sheer, sparkling color.
- Doesn't fade and has minimal creasing.
- Fragrance free.
Lidstar lights up eyes with a wash of soft, glistening color that lasts all day. The effect comes from a delicate proportion of ultrafine multicolor pearls suspended with coated pigments in a buttery base for the silkiest, most blendable formula. To apply, dab doe foot applicator onto clean lids and use fingertips to shape. The cream dries down to a sheer veil, locking onto lids with no creasing (no need for primer). Its one-step eye enhancement you can do every day.
Glossier is the brainchild of Emily Weiss, whose successful beauty blog IntoTheGloss.com inspired the spinoff skincare/makeup line launched in 2014. Weiss describes the concept behind Glossier as a lifestyle beauty brand with a highly edited selection of streamlined skincare and makeup products.
We consider Glossiers makeup the strong suit of the brand. Their tagline of uncomplicated makeup staples that live with younot on you rings true with their simple yet impressive lineup of color products. Each is intentionally designed as a low maintenance option to enhance your appearance but not overpower it, allowing your natural beauty to shine through. By and large, the makeup products perform well, and while the shade options arent vast, were impressed by the flattering, attractive colors that theyve curated.
Glossiers skincare fares a little lower on the rating scale. While the majority of formulas are decent, they tend to be lackluster in terms of a well-researched cocktail of beneficial ingredients. Not bad, but not great either. Aesthetically-speaking, the skincare products stick to their reoccurring promise of dewy, glowy looking skin.
Were happy to report the majority of Glossiers skincare and makeup products are fragrance free, which is a rarity in the cosmetics industry and better overall for the health of your skin. (There a few products featuring rosewatersee individual reviews for our thoughts on that.)
To sum it up: Skincare-wise theres room for improvement, but if you like the minimalist approach and cool girl vibe, Glossier makeup delivers. Were intrigued to see what they come up with next!
