Brand Overview

Glossier claims it took nearly 250 tries to get its Lash Slick formula just right. The effort might seem a bit excessive, but turns out it was worth it—this mascara performs exactly as advertised.

Like most of Glossier's offerings, Lash Slick's packaging is straightforward: a standard-looking tube in the brand's signature millennial pink, and a spoolie brush with small bristles that lock the fibers to lashes for clean, even distribution of the mascara.

Lashes are given moderate length and volume with no clumping, even after multiple coats, making it a good "everyday" mascara as the brand claims. Because of the high concentration of film-forming agents in this mascara, true to claims, it also provides (and holds!) lashes with a noticeable curl. As far as performance over time, it doesn't flake or smudge, and is easy to remove with your regular facial cleanser.

Glossier's philosophy is all about effortless beauty, and Lash Slick delivers that plus winning results.

Note: This mascara contains a moderately high amount of alcohol, but because it does not come into direct contact with skin (only lash hairs, which are already dead), and doesn't make lashes feel dry, its inclusion here does not impact this product's rating as it would other types of makeup or skin care products.

248 formulations later: the perfect everyday mascara. Lash Slick curls and sculpts as it lengthens, enhancing the look of your natural lashes instead of clumping them together or spackling them in product. Teeny-tiny fibers coat lashes from root to tip to create a lengthened baby-extension, while flexible film-forming polymers lift and lock each fiber into place. And its water-resistant (not waterproof), so Lash Slick washes off easy with warm water at the end of your day.

Glossier At-A-Glance

Glossier is the brainchild of Emily Weiss, whose successful beauty blog IntoTheGloss.com inspired the spinoff skin care/makeup line launched in 2014. Weiss describes the concept behind Glossier as a lifestyle beauty brand with a highly edited selection of streamlined skin care and makeup products.

We consider Glossier's makeup the strong suit of the brand. Their tagline of uncomplicated makeup staples that live with you, not on you, rings true with their simple yet impressive lineup of color products. Each is intentionally designed as a low maintenance option to enhance your appearance but not overpower it, allowing your natural beauty to shine through. By and large, the makeup products perform well, and while the shade options aren't vast, we're impressed by the flattering, attractive colors they've curated.

Glossier's skin care fares a little lower on the rating scale. While the majority of formulas are decent, they tend to be lackluster in terms of a well-researched cocktail of beneficial ingredients. Not bad, but not great either. Aesthetically-speaking, the skincare products stick to their reoccurring promise of dewy, glowy looking skin.

We're happy to report the majority of Glossier's skin care and makeup products are fragrance free, which is a rarity in the cosmetics industry and better overall for the health of your skin.

To sum it up: Skin care-wise there's room for improvement, but if you like the minimalist approach and cool girl vibe, Glossier makeup delivers. We're intrigued to see what they come up with next!
