Brand Overview

CeraVe's Itch Relief Moisturizing Lotion combines a proven over-the-counter external pain reliever with a lightweight lotion for all skin types. It's an impressive, fragrance-free anti-itch product that soothes itching from insect bites, sunburn, dryness, or minor (non-wound) skin irritations.

Itch Relief Moisturizing Lotion's active ingredient is 1% pramoxine hydrochloride, which works to relieve the "itch signal" by acting as a topical anesthetic. If you stop the itch signal, you won't feel the need to scratch, allowing skin a chance to heal from the damage constant scratching causes.

A combination of emollients and skin-identical ingredients help soften skin while providing near-immediate itch relief. Niacinamide, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid help to replenish and repair skin's barrier function, critical for healthier skin.

However, the formula skimps on a few ingredients that can improve itchy skin even further: anti-irritant allantoin and three skin-identical ingredients are present in amounts too small to have any impact. Denatured alcohol is included, too, but in an amount too small to affect skin.

Pros:
  • Contains an active ingredient proven to relieve itching.
  • Improves dry, uncomfortable skin with a mix of emollients and skin-identical ingredients.
  • Fragrance-free, lotion-textured formula leaves skin smooth and hydrated.
Cons:
  • Contains more denatured alcohol than anti-irritants.
Jar Packaging: No

CeraVe At-A-Glance

This expanding collection of skincare products keeps things gentle and effective with fragrance-free formulas, many of which are more state-of-the-art than any other product in its price range or pricier versions at the drugstore. In short, this line is a real find!

CeraVe uses a delivery system the company refers to as Multivesicular Emulsion Technology, which releases key ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid over a period of several hours. Although this technology is undoubtedly helpful, such time-delayed delivery systems aren't unique to CeraVe, and the fact remains that most of the ingredients they use are very helpful on their own, no matter what delivery system you use.

The important point is that ongoing, consistent use of this kind of moisturizer designed to repair the skin's barrier function will result in smoother, softer, healthier skin.

It is for these reasons that most CeraVe products are definitely worth considering, especially at this price. You'll find a options for moisturizing, cleansing, broad spectrum sun protection, and baby care.
