Brand Overview

CeraVe's Intensive Stretch Marks Cream is loaded with skin-repairing and cell-communicating ingredients, along with a mix of antioxidants and emollients that makes good on its promise to repair and restore the skin's barrier. You'll find a nice mix of plant butters (cocoa, shea and mango), along with ceramides, hyaluronic acid, argan oil, and a peptide; this is a very good moisturizer for use anywhere on the body.

Bonus: It's fragrance free and packaged in a tube to protect the light and air-sensitive ingredients. But for stretch marks? Well, don't get your hopes up. Intensive Stretch Marks Cream earned a Beautypedia BEST for its impressive ingredient deck, not for its ability to make good on its claims to improve the appearance of stretch marks.

When skin develops a "stretch mark", this is literally the stretching and breaking of elastic bands deep beneath the surface layers of skin—once this occurs, nothing applied topically will repair them. For more information about this topic, check our article, Stretch Marks: What Works (and What Doesn't). We'll warn you now, there's some hope, but the scientific and medical conclusions are a little depressing for those of us afflicted with vexing stretch marks.

That aside, this is absolutely a wonderful option to consider for a dry-skin moisturizer without sunscreen, above or below the neck. If you do use Intensive Stretch Marks Cream on your face or eye area, it's likely a better choice for your evening routine as its richer texture may not be ideal under your sunscreen and makeup.

Pros:
  • Includes an impressive mix of anti-aging ingredients.
  • Substantial cream contains ingredients proven to repair and strengthen skin's barrier.
  • Fragrance free and packaged to protect its light and air-sensitive ingredients.
  • Affordable given it's state of the art formula for dry, sensitive skin.
Cons:
  • Cannot repair or improve the appearance of stretch marks any better than other moisturizers, because in truth there's not much that can be done to improve stretch marks.
Jar Packaging: No

CeraVe At-A-Glance

This expanding collection of skincare products keeps things gentle and effective with fragrance-free formulas, many of which are more state-of-the-art than any other product in its price range or pricier versions at the drugstore. In short, this line is a real find!

CeraVe uses a delivery system the company refers to as Multivesicular Emulsion Technology, which releases key ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid over a period of several hours. Although this technology is undoubtedly helpful, such time-delayed delivery systems aren't unique to CeraVe, and the fact remains that most of the ingredients they use are very helpful on their own, no matter what delivery system you use.

The important point is that ongoing, consistent use of this kind of moisturizer designed to repair the skin's barrier function will result in smoother, softer, healthier skin.

It is for these reasons that most CeraVe products are definitely worth considering, especially at this price. You'll find a options for moisturizing, cleansing, broad spectrum sun protection, and baby care.
