Brand Overview

Despite being advertised as an intensive product for extra dry skin, this is really just an average but OK moisturizer for dry skin. If you’d describe your dry skin as “very dry” or “painfully dry” then this body lotion isn’t likely to improve matters to a significant degree. In fact, this differs little from most of the other body lotions Vaseline offers.

Oddly, this body lotion doesn’t contain any of the plant extract chamomile. Chamomile can indeed be a good anti-irritant for skin, but it’s not present here—and we got our ingredient information directly from Vaseline’s website. This does contain fragrance as advertised, but fragrance isn’t skin care. In fact, too much fragrance can cause irritation that will prolong, not “rescue” very dry skin.

In the end, this isn’t among the best body lotions at the drugstore, but it’s a decent option if you’re on a tight budget and just want something basic to smooth dry (but not very dry) skin.

Intensive Rescue Soothing Chamomile Body Lotion was specifically formulated for dry to extra dry skin. This healing lotion leaves dry, itchy skin calmed and healthy. Our lightly fragranced formula combines chamomile & Stratys-3 multi-layer moisture, infusing moisture at the top, core and deep down layers of skin, absorbing quickly without greasiness.

The Vaseline brand is perhaps among the oldest and most well-known around the world. Since the advent of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly in the late 1800s, the brand has been synonymous with treating dry, chafed, cracked skin. Although petroleum jelly is among the best ingredients for preventing moisture loss and healing dry skin, it must be said that skin requires more than one ingredient to look and function at its healthy best. To that end, Vaseline has branched out from its original, ointment-like petroleum jelly to a line of body creams and lotions that contain a range of helpful ingredients for dry skin. Their body-care formulas aren't the most exciting around, but there are some good options. Adding to the handful of commendable products are Vaseline's widespread availability and relatively low price point.

This is definitely a line to shop carefully, because many of the body lotion formulas arent all that great; in fact, most of them pale in comparison to competing brands sold at the drugstore. Despite Vaselines history, theyre not consistently keeping pace with what modern research has shown is necessary to significantly improve dry skin. If you focus on their best products, you can find some bona-fide beauty bargains but again, this isnt a line to shop blindly.
