Brand Overview

Vaseline is owned by consumer products giant Unilever (of Dove brand fame) and it baffles us as to why they cannot come out with a beautifully formulated body lotion. Their Dove brand has some good options (they've had better ones in the past, though) but they're seemingly content to churn out mediocre, basic options for their well-established Vaseline brand. Sigh…

Intensive Care Advanced Repair Fragrance-Free isn't too intensive and it's far from advanced. Where are the elegant skin-repairing ingredients? Some antioxidants? Maybe a dash of retinol? Instead, you get a standard mix of emollients and thickeners, some of which are great for dry skin, but dry skin deserves and needs more than what this can provide.

Brands like Eucerin, Gold Bond, and CeraVe offer better body lotions and creams, and although some of those cost a bit more than this product, it's money well spent. At best, Intensive Care Advanced Repair Lightly Scented is an OK option that does the job, sort of like how chicken does the job of making you feel full—but wouldn't you rather have chicken with a mix of delicious herbs, vegetables, and sauce? We certainly would!

Note: Vaseline sells this body lotion a larger size.

In our Advanced Repair Fragrance Free lotion, weve combined healing micro-droplets of Vaseline Jelly with our highest levels of moisturizing glycerin. The result is a rich yet quick-absorbing formula that gives you intense moisturization, allowing your skin to heal from deep within.

The Vaseline brand is perhaps among the oldest and most well-known around the world. Since the advent of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly in the late 1800s, the brand has been synonymous with treating dry, chafed, cracked skin. Although petroleum jelly is among the best ingredients for preventing moisture loss and healing dry skin, it must be said that skin requires more than one ingredient to look and function at its healthy best. To that end, Vaseline has branched out from its original, ointment-like petroleum jelly to a line of body creams and lotions that contain a range of helpful ingredients for dry skin. Their body-care formulas aren't the most exciting around, but there are some good options. Adding to the handful of commendable products are Vaseline's widespread availability and relatively low price point.

This is definitely a line to shop carefully, because many of the body lotion formulas arent all that great; in fact, most of them pale in comparison to competing brands sold at the drugstore. Despite Vaselines history, theyre not consistently keeping pace with what modern research has shown is necessary to significantly improve dry skin. If you focus on their best products, you can find some bona-fide beauty bargains but again, this isnt a line to shop blindly.
