Brand Overview

The difference between this Lubriderm body lotion and others they sell is the inclusion of soothing oat kernel extract and oil. Both provide an anti-irritant benefit that can help calm itchy, irritated skin. That's good, but just like Lubriderm's other body lotions, the rest of the formula is a basic blend that doesn't rise above average to give your skin what it really needs to become healthier. Kudos to the company for making this fragrance-free, but it still lacks the range of soothing and reparative ingredients those with sensitive, irritated skin need to get "calming relief." Still, this does improve on Lubriderm’s longstanding Daily Moisture lotions, but that's not saying much. Check out our list of Best Body-Care Products for products that take great care of your skin and your budget, too.

  • Fragrance-free and inexpensive.
  • Contains skin-soothing oat kernel extract and oil.
  • Despite the skin-soothing oat ingredients, the formula lacks a range of skin-repairing and cell-communicating ingredients as well as antioxidants.
  • Helps calm irritated skin but doesn't do much to repair its surface to prevent further problems.
  • Those with itchy skin may find short-term use of a hydrocortisone cream preferred to this body lotion.

Lubriderm At-A-Glance

Strengths: Inexpensive; some fragrance-free body lotions; Lubriderm provides complete product ingredient lists on its Web site.

Weaknesses: Mostly outdated formulas that lack a range of skin-repairing ingredients; the body lotion with SPF 15 does not provide sufficient UVA protection; not much distinction between formulas, especially in the Daily Moisture range.

Among body lotion brands, Lubriderm is recognizable at drugstores and grocery stores around the world. Unfortunately, most of their formulas are about as exciting as watching grass grow! Instead of providing dry, itchy skin with a range of state-of-the-art ingredients proven to offer lasting benefits, Lubriderm stops short at the basics, with formulas that echo back to the 1960s.

What Lubriderm leaves out are the ingredients that would supply your skin with a healthy dose of antioxidants, skin-repairing ingredients, or cell-communicating ingredients. All these types of ingredients can actually "repair" skin, not just put a Band-Aid on the problem of dry skin.

Lubriderm products are not bad, but it's like using a typewriter instead of a computer. Simply put, science has advanced skin care far beyond what Lubriderm formulas provide.

Lubriderm's price point is attractive, but saving money isn't always the end game. Besides, there are other inexpensive brands whose impressive body moisturizer formulas mean you dont have to settle for less.
