Hydrating Eye Gel-Cream
Hydrating Eye Gel-Cream has a velvety texture that works well to make skin around the eyes look smoother, while softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Unfortunately, the formula also has a significant drawback: fragrance (which can pose a risk of irritation; see More Info to learn why).
In other words, don't buy into Cetaphil's claims that this formula is "non-irritating for sensitive eyes." Today's best eye creams omit fragrance because the eye area is the most likely to be sensitive to fragrance, so its inclusion here this is hard to overlook. (Not to mention the hypoallergenic claim is meaningless due to the complete lack of regulations explaining what it means.)
That's a bummer, considering the excellent mix of antioxidants, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and other skin-replenishing ingredients in this formula (and they're packaged in an air-restrictive tube so they can stay stable). Here's hoping Cetaphil will relaunch this otherwise impressive anti-aging eye cream with a fragrance-free version!
- Velvety gel-cream texture smooths and softens the appearance of wrinkles.
- Contains beneficial antioxidants, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid.
- Packaged to keep its light- and air-sensitive ingredients stable during use.
- Fragranced formula poses risk of irritation.
This reaction in turn leads to all kinds of problems, including disrupting skin's barrier, worsening dryness, increasing or triggering redness, depleting vital substances in skin's surface, and generally preventing skin from looking healthy, smooth, and hydrated. Fragrance free is always the best way to go for all skin types.
A surprising fact: Even though you can't always see or feel the negative effects of fragrant ingredients on skin, the damage will still be taking place, even if it's not evident on the surface. Research has demonstrated that you don't need to see or feel the effects of irritation for your skin to be suffering. Much like the effects from cumulative sun damage, the negative impact and the visible damage from fragrance may not become apparent for a long time.

Unique gel-cream formula absorbs quickly like a gel, but moisturizes deeply like a cream to hydrate for 24 hours. Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid - a powerful moisturizing agent and an essential component of skin, known for its ability to retain up to 1000x its weight in water - and a Pro-Vitamin Complex and Licorice Extract. Specifically designed to brighten and smooth the under-eye area for a well-rested look. Hypoallergenic and non-irritating for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.
This familiar, widely distributed skin-care collection is manufactured by Galderma, the same company that markets the prescription products Differin and MetroGel.Given the dermatology heritage of Galderma, it's surprising the Cetaphil line hasn't advanced beyond the basics. Yes, most of what's available is a safe bet for those with sensitive skin!
If you're in search of simplicity, this is a good line to consider. We should note that many of the formulas omit more complex anti-aging ingredients, but they can always be used alongside a serum or treatment of your choosing.
Strengths: Inexpensive; mostly fragrance-free products; affordable and widely available; offers complete ingredient lists on its website; the sunscreens offer sufficient UVA protection.
Weaknesses:A few formulas could be updated with more complex ingredients, but forgoing that there is a lot to like here.
