Hydraluron Moisture Serum
*Note November 2018: Many of Indeed Labs' products have been reformulated since our original reviews. We are working on revising them accordingly. Please check back for updates in early 2019.
This serum from Indeed Laboratories positions itself as a super-powered addition to your skin-care routine – but the fact is it’s a pretty basic formula, one that doesn’t offer your skin all its needs to truly restore moisture.
Hydraluron Moisture Serum is a thick, fragrance-free gel in a tube that goes on sticky at first, but dries to a silky finish. It’s centered on one “superstar” ingredient, hyaluronic acid (appearing in this formula in its salt form, sodium hyaluronate). While research has made it clear that it’s an excellent ingredient that can boost skin’s moisture content and help prevent moisture loss, great skin care is about more than just a single ingredient.
Relying on a product that only has one big selling point (there is algae extract in here as well, which has antioxidant properties, but it isn’t in a great amount) shortchanges your skin from a beneficial blend that will really have a meaningful impact. You can read more on why skincare shouldn’t come down to a single ingredient here. By the way, algae extract has nothing to do with “maximum delivery” of hyaluronic acid (or sodium hyaluronate) to skin. That’s just Indeed trying to make a natural ingredient seem better than it is.
This formula would have gotten our highest rating had it contained a variety of antioxidants, skin-repairing ingredients, or emollients. As it stands, it’s not that exciting. You can find much better options on our list of Best Serums.
- Sodium hyaluronate boosts skin’s moisture and helps prevent moisture loss.
- Doesn’t contain a variety anti-aging ingredients to make it a truly beneficial product.
The ultimate daily facial moisture boosting serum that starts where your moisturizer stops. hydraluron contains a pure form of hyaluronic acid, an incredibly hydrating ingredient that holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Red marine algae helps with maximum delivery. The result better hydrated, moisture nourished, plumped up skin.
Strengths: Inexpensive; some novel products worth checking out, fragrance-free.
Weaknesses: Some of the products in this line make claims that the results are like in-office cosmetic corrective procedures when that is not the case.
Promising high performance, innovative products, Canada-based Indeed Laboratories is a small, drugstore-sold line specializing in anti-aging-themed products. Their best-known product, and not surprisingly the one we're asked about the most, is Nanoblur. This product is essentially a silicone-based wrinkle filler and pore smoother that works, though no better than many other, similar products. All of these types of products work (temporarily, of course) to improve skin texture and fill imperfections to a degree that they're slightly to moderately less noticeable. Where Nanoblur makes its mark is the price point, which many will find enticing.
This is a line that seeks to avoid fragrance, and that's always to skin's benefit, and their modern-looking packaging will help keep light- and air-sensitive ingredients (like retinol) from degrading. Though the claims of certain products don't always live up to the reality of their ingredients, if you keep your expectations realistic and don't expect miracles, you're far more likely to come away satisfied.
