Dr. Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum delivers a boost of hydration as promised, helping skin look and feel more supple. That’s wonderful, but we have to point out that there are other hyaluronic serums on the market that give you more bang for your buck.
The form of hyaluronic acid in this serum is sodium hyaluronate, which has the ability to deliver high and low weighted molecules that work on the surface level, as well as penetrating further for deeper hydration. You’re getting an ample amount of this star ingredient to work its magic attracting and retaining moisture, helping to smooth out the appearance of wrinkles (temporarily) by plumping skin.
Skin is also treated to a decent dose of purslane, a rejuvenating antioxidant rich in vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids that improve skin’s healthy appearance. Here’s it’s combined with a soothing probiotic that can reduce skin-aging inflammation.
The rest of Hyaluronic Serum is bare boned compared to more robust hyaluronic acid formulas that include a broader range of beneficial ingredients. That doesn’t mean this formula is bad, but we mention it so that you don’t invest in this thinking it will be your skin care cure-all.
The silky, fluid-gel, fragrance-free formula absorbs seamlessly (no sticky after feel), making it compatible with all skin types.
FYI: Hyaluronic Serum comes in a 1.01 oz. size and a 3.38 oz size. The smaller version is housed in a frosted bottle, whereas the larger size comes in an opaque bottle. The opaque packaging is preferred as it does a better job of keeping the light-sensitive purslane/probiotic ferment stable… but that larger sized bottle retails for $800 at the time of this review, which isn’t going to fit everyone’s budget. Peruse our list of best serums to find more affordable products that have a leg up on Dr. Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum.

- Includes powerhouse antioxidant purslane to help improve skin’s healthy appearance.
- Silky, fluid-gel formula absorbs seamlessly (no sticky after feel).
- Fragrance free.
- Frosted bottle needs to be stored away from direct light to protect the sensitive ingredients.
- Not as robust as other top-rated hyaluronic acid serums that cost a fraction of the price.
Packed with an optimal concentration of low and high weighted Hyaluronic Molecules, it provides instant hydration at the surface and deeper skin layers. The low molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid penetrates deeper skin layers, leaving skin feeling firmer, refreshed and visibly more radiant for the long term. High weight Hyaluronic Molecules provide immediate intensive hydration to the surface layers of the skin. When used as part of your daily skincare routine, the HYALURONIC SERUM improves the skin matrix and acts as a super-hydrator, improving skin health and reducing the formation of wrinkles caused by dehydration.
As the founder behind her namesake line, Dr. Barbara Sturm has a long history as a physician specializing in aesthetics. As the story goes, Dr. Sturm translated the science from her clinical research on inflammation into what has now evolved into her line of “molecular” skin care products.
The brand is self-described as being “formulated for those who yearn for an uncomplicated, yet highly effective skincare regime that provides hydration, nutrition and regeneration glow.” So, do the products live up to the hype? Yes… and no.
As with most skin care brands, some of Dr. Sturm’s products are well-formulated while others fall short. While many of the formulas are beneficial, we have to point out that they’re not quite as robust in terms of a well-rounded mix of ingredients when compared to the top formulas that we review. That doesn’t make them bad, it’s just less state-of-the-art than we’d anticipate, especially at such a high price point.
One thing that stands out as a positive is that the formulas tend to steer clear of irritating fragrance and other known skin sensitizing ingredients. Dr. Sturm is also known for using beneficial antioxidants, including super antioxidant purslane.
On the downside, a handful of the products come in jar packaging, which compromises their efficacy. As for the cost, we’ll leave it up to you to decide if it’s within your budget.
