Hungarian Thermal Water Mineral-Rich Moisturizer
Let's state up front that the fountain of youth anti-aging claims accompanying this fragrance-free moisturizer are overstated. Mineral-rich water from any part of the world can have various benefits for skin and health, but it's not going to successfully improve multiple signs of aging.
Esthetically, Hungarian Thermal Water Mineral-Rich Moisturizer has a delicate cream-gel texture that glides over skin, leaving a near-weightless velvety finish that has minimal shine yet a soft glow from diamond powder and mica. It's best for normal to slightly dry or slightly oily skin.
Several notable antioxidants made their way into this formula, but the choice of jar packaging was unwise. As we explain in the More Info section, this type of packaging doesn't hold such ingredients stable during use, which isn't to your skin's advantage.
The sugar-based mineral ferments this contains can help energize the look of lackluster skin, while the hydrating agents protect against moisture loss. Sadly, that perk isn't enough to justify this moisturizer's packaging mishap. You can find more suitable options on our list of Best Moisturizers, Nighttime.

- Sugar-based mineral ferments help soften and energize lackluster skin.
- Fragrance free.
- Jar packaging hinders the effectiveness of the light- and air-sensitive ingredients.
- The thermal water "fountain of youth" claims are overstated.
Jar Packaging & Anti-Aging Moisturizers: Beneficial anti-aging ingredients, which include all plant extracts, almost all vitamins, antioxidants, and other state-of-the-art ingredients, are unstable, which means they begin to break down in the presence of air. Once a jar is opened and lets air in, these important ingredients begin to deteriorate, becoming less and less effective. Routine exposure to daylight also is problematic for these ingredients.
Jar packaging is also unsanitary because you dip your fingers into the jar with each use, contaminating the product. This stresses the preservative system, leading to further deterioration of the beneficial ingredients.
Remember: The ingredients that provide the most benefit in addressing visible signs of aging must be in airtight or air-restrictive packaging to remain effective throughout usage. Buying products in this type of packaging means that the ingredients have the best chance of remaining effective—to the benefit of your skin!

Peter Thomas Roth At-A-Glance
Peter Thomas Roth is a large but straightforward line with mostly uncomplicated formulations that, for the most part, are quite good and state-of-the-art. Unlike many product lines, most of the acne, AHA, BHA, sunscreen, and moisturizing products contain what they should to be effective and helpful for skin.
Even more impressive are the well-formulated cleansers, sunscreens, AHA products, and skin lighteners. The moisturizers have improved somewhat, and most are now packaged so that the light- and air-sensitive ingredients remain stable. In fact, Roth's packaging deserves special mention because it is exceptionally utilitarian.
After all that glowing praise, what you should be aware of are the instances of products containing potential irritants (noted in their respective reviews) as well as the products in jar packaging that contain ingredients which are sensitive to air and light.
