Brand Overview

Cannuka’s Harmonizing Face Cream has a pleasing aesthetic, but some iffy ingredient mistakes mean this isn’t exactly a moisturizer that’s harmonious to skin’s needs.

First, the positives: this cream is packaged in an opaque bottle with a pump dispenser that protects its light- and air-sensitive ingredients. What’s inside has a wonderful whipped texture that’s best for normal skin (it’s not quite hydrating enough for drier skin types, yet not lightweight enough for very oily skin, and it has a slightly dewy finish).

This includes some very good hydrating and protective ingredients, namely beeswax, glycerin, grapeseed oil, rosehip oil, and hemp seed oil. This combination (also seen in the brand’s CBD Nourishing Body Cream) restores and replenishes skin, and the non-fragrant plant oils have antioxidant properties as well.

As claimed, this also contains manuka honey (like all Cannuka products), and cannabidiol, the non-intoxicating part of marijuana and hemp plants. Research shows using cannabidiol on skin can help reduce inflammation, which is always good; inflammation is a key factor in visible skin damage and accelerated aging.

Unfortunately there are two reasons we don’t recommend this product: the first is that this contains fragrant grapefruit extract (the citrus smell is strong and lingers). The second is that this has witch hazel, which is a source of skin-drying alcohol. Both of these irritate skin, meaning they’re working at cross-purposes to the rest of the ingredients included. It’s better to consider a less problematic alternative from our list of best CBD skin care.

A final note: at the time of this review, the brand’s ingredient list is not using approved ingredient names per the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI) standards. Terms such as “CBD isolate”, “distilled water” and “vitamin E” along with not listing the Latin names for the plant oils makes this ingredient list a bit misleading.

  • Whipped texture is easy to apply.
  • Includes tried-and-true moisturizing ingredients, including non-fragrant plant oils.
  • Contains anti-inflammatory CBD.
  • Packaged to protect its light- and air-sensitive ingredients.
  • Contains fragrant grapefruit extract, which puts skin at risk for irritation.
  • Includes witch hazel, which contains drying alcohol.

Silky-smooth, our Harmonizing Face Cream calms and soothes dry, sensitive skin— the magical outcome of our unique combination of CBD and Manuka honey, plus witch hazel, cucumber extract, and hyaluronic acid.

Distilled Water, Bees Wax, Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Emulsifying Wax, Lecithin, Polyglyceryl Oleate, Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, Myristic Acid, Grapeseed Oil, Rose Hip Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, CBD Isolate (100mg), Manuka Honey (Active 16+), Hyaluronic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Xanthan Gum, Grapefruit Extract, Witch Hazel, Cucumber Extract and Mallow Extract.

Cannuka’s backstory is that it was started by a husband and wife team who had a passion for legalizing industrial hemp and in that process, they discovered the benefits of topical CBD for skin. The wife (Kelly Bumgarner) also happens to be dermatologist.

According to Cannuka’s website, their products are, “simple, natural and only include essential beneficial ingredients.” At the heart of the brand you’ll find CBD plays a role in every formula, joined by manuka honey—both of which are an amalgamation that comprise the brand’s name. In terms of CBD, they’re sourcing legitimate cannabidiol, which delivers potent anti-inflammatory properties. Their manuka honey has a complementary effect by adding to the skin-calming and antioxidant properties.

Unfortunately, things go downhill from there as Cannuka’s formulas tend to get off track with fragrant essential oils and citrus-based ingredients that pose a risk of inciting skin-irritating inflammation. Furthermore, some products come in jar packaging, ultimately compromising the stability of many of their beneficial light- and air-sensitive ingredients.
