Goof Proof Brow Pencil
Sometimes simple is the best way to go, and that's certainly true of Benefit's Goof Proof Brow Pencil! It performs just as advertised, and does so beautifully—although the price is higher than what you should be spending on a brow pencil as there are less expensive ones that work beautifully as well.
This twist-up pencil comes in a sleek silver package featuring the brow product itself on one end and a standard spoolie brush on the other. Though labeled as a pencil, it's almost more of a wax in stick form, though it doesn't feel sticky in the slightest or weigh brows down.
One of the best aspects of this product is that the pencil is angled and diamond-shaped, meaning that it doesn't need sharpening (think of a tube of lipstick that's angled and retains its shape use after use). The flat "head" of the pencil is used for heavier filling in, while the sharper tip is used to mimic the shape of individual brow hairs, great for filling in as the brow's end naturally thins out.
The color quality of Goof Proof Brow Pencil is rich, with not a lot required to fill in brows, though if you apply it carefully it isn't overpowering to the point where it makes brows look harsh or overdone. The shade range is small but still offers good range of shades from light blonde to black.
The formula doesn't smudge or fade throughout the day, yet is easy to remove with cleanser or makeup remover. Though not the least expensive option on the market, if you happen to pick up Benefit's Goof Proof Brow Pencil, there's a good chance you'll be as impressed with the results as we were!

Benefit was developed by twins Jean Danielson and Jane Blackford, whose initial claim to fame was a stint as the Calgon twins back in 1960s television commercials. They opened their first cosmetics store, The Face Place, in San Francisco, circa 1976, and then, perhaps recognizing the need for a name with more impact, The Face Place became Benefit in 1990. From there the line took off and expanded its presence beyond the Bay Area to include national department stores and, eventually, Sephora boutiques.
Benefit's makeup philosophy is outrageously fun and its product arsenal is centered on impossibly cute names and a lexicon that aims to make beauty enjoyable. Benefit single-handedly started the trend of selling makeup and skincare products with ultra-cute appellations for less than ultra-fancy prices. As with most lines, there are enough missteps and problem products to shop carefully, but Benefit shines in several categories, including foundation, bronzing powder, blush, and shimmer products.
Unfortunately, some of the products simply can't live up to their promises. This is mostly true of their skincare formulas, where the showcased ingredients are either present in itsy-bitsy amounts or the claims attributed to them are very exaggerated. Despite this, if you're in the mood for a fun experience and can manage to choose products wisely while enjoying the whimsy, Benefit deserves a look.
