Brand Overview

Glossier Play’s Vinylic Lip delivers “balmy, comfortable color with a glossy finish—no goop” exactly as promised. We only hope they choose to expand the shade range, because we love it that much!

Vinylic Lip has a creamy-lacquer texture dispensed via a click-style pen with slanted sponge tip applicator. The formula instantly delivers a plush, velvety-smooth feel without the heaviness or stickiness that accompanies many lacquer lipsticks. The glossy finish is nicely balanced, offering alluring shine.

The color can go on in a thin, semi-sheer layer or with a couple extra swipes, you can build the opacity. As per the norm with this type of emollient texture, Vinylic Lip tends to transfer to your coffee mug and although the glossy shine dissipates after a couple hours, the color lingers a bit longer. (And it feels so good you’ll want to reapply it anyway.)

As we mentioned earlier, we’d love to see the shade range expanded, but at least for now pink, taupe, red, orange and berry are represented. If you can find a color that suits you, Vinylic Lip is worth it!

FYI: The formula includes flavor (essentially fragrance), which may cause irritation, but the scent is only minimally perceptible and doesn’t linger, so we aren’t overly concerned.

Pros:
  • Creamy-lacquer texture delivers plush, velvety-smooth lip color.
  • Moisturizing formula feels delightfully cushiony (not heavy).
  • Non-sticky glossy finish is nicely balanced in terms of shine.
  • Can go from semi-sheer to opaque.
Cons:
  • Flavored formula may cause irritation.
Jar Packaging: No
Tested on animals: No

Glossier At-A-Glance

Glossier is the brainchild of Emily Weiss, whose successful beauty blog IntoTheGloss.com inspired the spinoff skincare/makeup line launched in 2014. Weiss describes the concept behind Glossier as a lifestyle beauty brand with a highly edited selection of streamlined skincare and makeup products.

We consider Glossiers makeup the strong suit of the brand. Their tagline of uncomplicated makeup staples that live with younot on you rings true with their simple yet impressive lineup of color products. Each is intentionally designed as a low maintenance option to enhance your appearance but not overpower it, allowing your natural beauty to shine through. By and large, the makeup products perform well, and while the shade options arent vast, were impressed by the flattering, attractive colors that theyve curated.

Glossiers skincare fares a little lower on the rating scale. While the majority of formulas are decent, they tend to be lackluster in terms of a well-researched cocktail of beneficial ingredients. Not bad, but not great either. Aesthetically-speaking, the skincare products stick to their reoccurring promise of dewy, glowy looking skin.

Were happy to report the majority of Glossiers skincare and makeup products are fragrance free, which is a rarity in the cosmetics industry and better overall for the health of your skin. (There a few products featuring rosewatersee individual reviews for our thoughts on that.)

To sum it up: Skincare-wise theres room for improvement, but if you like the minimalist approach and cool girl vibe, Glossier makeup delivers. Were intrigued to see what they come up with next!
