Glossier Play Colorslide Technogel Eye Pencil
Glossier Play’s Colorslide Technogel Eye Pencil is your basic, run-of-the-mill eyeliner pencil, but it at least spices things up with a wide range of fun colors to play around with.
The ultra-soft, creamy pencil texture applies smoothly and can be blended out for diffused effect before setting to a resilient finish. Once set, the color holds up well throughout the day, resisting smudging or fading. One caveat—those prone to oily eyelids may experience a bit of the color transferring to their upper eyelids.
As promised, Colorslide Technogel Eye Pencil passes the waterproof test and the matte shades hold up well in the waterline (when used to “tightline” the inner rim of your eyelid). The formula is fragrance free, which is a good thing—especially for use so close to the delicate eye area.
Shades range from sparkly, metallic hues to matte-finish classics. Glossier went outside the box with some colors choices that we don’t normally see for eyeliner, like gingery-orange and mustard-yellow. Obviously, certain hues will look better/show up more richly than others, depending on your skin tone.
We’re a little surprised that Glossier went the old-school route of an eyeliner pencil that requires manual sharpening (as opposed to more convenient retractable designs). to get it back to a moderately fine point, leaving the pencil almost a fourth of the way used up after just one week. That’s more than the norm—hence, we probably wouldn’t invest in Colorslide Technogel Eye Pencil as our everyday eyeliner, but for those times you want to switch up your eyeliner color, this is a fun way to do it.
- Creamy-soft texture applies smoothly.
- Ample time to blend out (if desired) before setting.
- Wide range of fun colors to spice things up.
- Fragrance-free formula.
- Requires manual sharpening, which uses up the pencil faster than average.
Colorslide is here in 14 color-true shades to switch up your routine. What you see on the pencil is what you get: a highly pigmented, longwearing gel eyeliner that lasts all day and all night. The waterproof formula doesn’t crease, smudge, tug, or skip, and lasts for 12 hours (matte shades last in the waterline for 8 hours).
Glossier is the brainchild of Emily Weiss, whose successful beauty blog IntoTheGloss.com inspired the spinoff skin care/makeup line launched in 2014. Weiss describes the concept behind Glossier as a lifestyle beauty brand with a highly edited selection of streamlined skin care and makeup products.
We consider Glossier's makeup the strong suit of the brand. Their tagline of uncomplicated makeup staples that live with you, not on you, rings true with their simple yet impressive lineup of color products. Each is intentionally designed as a low maintenance option to enhance your appearance but not overpower it, allowing your natural beauty to shine through. By and large, the makeup products perform well, and while the shade options aren't vast, we're impressed by the flattering, attractive colors they've curated.
Glossier's skin care fares a little lower on the rating scale. While the majority of formulas are decent, they tend to be lackluster in terms of a well-researched cocktail of beneficial ingredients. Not bad, but not great either. Aesthetically-speaking, the skincare products stick to their reoccurring promise of dewy, glowy looking skin.
We're happy to report the majority of Glossier's skin care and makeup products are fragrance free, which is a rarity in the cosmetics industry and better overall for the health of your skin.
To sum it up: Skin care-wise there's room for improvement, but if you like the minimalist approach and cool girl vibe, Glossier makeup delivers. We're intrigued to see what they come up with next!
