Brand Overview

Pop star Rihanna's Fenty Beauty hit the scene with a massive buzz, and Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer is one of the line's cornerstone products. Is it worth all the hype? For the most part, the answer is yes!

This gloss comes in stylish packaging; a pentagon-shaped clear tube with an oversized sponge-tipped wand. The larger sponge makes for slightly easier application, though it's not a game-changer. Still, it's a piece of pop artifice that nicely combines (rather than compromises) form and function.

The gloss itself has a lot to love; we can see why this became an instant hit. It's emollient and feels balm-like, without any stickiness. Not surprisingly, these traits lead to comfort during its entire wear time (which is about four hours, less if you eat or drink anything).

This gloss comes in just one shade —Fenty Glow—which is described as universal. Though no color is perfect for absolutely everyone, this neutral caramel-rose shade does work on a wide variety of skin tones. It has a high-gloss finish and though you can see glitter in the tube, the result is added dimension to lips, not a sparkle-fest.

In fact, the only drawback is that this contains fragrance, along with fragrance ingredients. The smell is a pleasant vanilla-fruit one that fades over time, but fragrance can cause irritation, so it isn't the best for lips.

As it stands, though, this is a good all-purpose gloss and worthy of its buzz.

Pros:
  • Balm-like gloss isn't sticky and feels comfortable during its wear time.
  • Attractive neutral caramel-rose shade.
  • High shine finish adds dimension to lips.
Cons:
  • Contains fragrance and fragrance ingredients that are not the best for lips.

Pop mogul Rihannas made her mark in the worlds of music, movies, and fashion, and now she expands her empire to include makeup with Fenty Beauty, under the umbrella of parent brand Kendo. Taken from the last name she doesnt use on stage, Fenty Beautys philosophy is Beauty for All, with an emphasis on diversity and inclusivity in its products. Among its most heralded offerings is its foundation, which comes in 40 shades with undertones appropriate for very fair to very deep skin tones, and its highlighters, which include a blindingly bright 24-karat gold shade.

Beyond all the press though, does Fenty Beauty deliver? For the most part, the answer is yes, and both the foundation and the highlighters are solid products worthy of their build-up, along with a nearly-universal lip gloss that works for a wide range of people. Most products are fragrance free or contain minimal fragrance, and come in thoughtful packaging thats convenient and, in some cases, modular (some complementary products are magnetized so that theyre easy to keep together as a set).
