Frxxxtion Stick 3-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser
Debuting as a new twist on cleansing, this solid, roll-up stick is to be applied over damp skin, where it lays down absorbent charcoal powder and clays, scrub agent diatomaceous earth, and cleansing agents ready to purify your pores. If all this sound intriguing, not so fast: Tarte's Frxxxion Stick 3-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser might just be your skin's ticket to problems, not solutions!
The main issue is that the diatomaceous earth scrub ingredient is just too abrasive. As the formula contains nothing to successfully buffer this ingredient, it's easy to get carried away and damage skin's surface. Doing so means skin's surface layers lose the critical substances they need to remain smooth, healthy-looking, and intact—and ongoing use could lead to a host of problems you wouldn't have to deal with from using a gentler, non-abrasive cleanser.
Ultimately, the novelty of this fragrance-free stick cleanser/scrub wears off quickly. It's also a bit odd to wash with something that makes skin look dirty at first (the sooty look comes from the charcoal powder) but without question this leaves skin feeling clean—just a bit too clean, almost like washing with bar soap, and we cannot stress enough the potential problems abrasive ingredients can cause, no matter your skin type.
- Leaves skin feeling smooth.
- Fragrance free.
- The scrub ingredient feels abrasive on skin and can damage skin's surface.
- Capable of leaving skin feeling tight and drawn, as it washed by standard bar soap.
Tarte Cosmetics At-A-Glance
Tarte Cosmetics CEO and founder Maureen Kelly started Tarte in 1999, out of a desire to create a cosmetics line that would prove that glamour can be good for you. This comes in the form of products that highlight naturally-derived ingredients in their marketing campaigns, and occasionally taking swipes at the concept of synthetics in makeup.
This is ironic, as Tarte uses more than a few beneficial synthetically derived ingredients in their formulassilicones, synthetic fragrances, preservatives and on and on. However, well forgive them that as whats ultimately important is whether their products meet your needs, and to that we can say the brand excels in many areas at what they do.
However, a few products are a bit on the pricey side and there are a few iffy shades and textures to consider among their foundationsnoted in their respective reviews. A few caveats aside, most of Tarte's foundations, blush options, eye pencils and an ever-expanding range of innovative products demonstrate that color is what they do best.
