Filmstars On The Go Easy Look In A Palette
Filmstars On The Go Easy Look In A Palette from Charlotte Tilbury comes with a wax and oil-based eyeshadow, as well as a creamy lip/cheek color and is touted as a "two-minute, two-step pocket-palette for a full eye, cheek and lip look on-the-go." If only it were that simple. The main problem? The eyeshadow is difficult to work with, rendering half of this palette more trouble than it's worth. But first, let's start with the good…
The "Lip-to-Cheek Cream Polish" portion of this palette offers lips and cheeks a glossy wash of sheer yet vibrant color. If you're into a shiny (but not shimmery) finish, this fits the bill and the colors are suitable for a variety of skin tones with hues of peach, pink and berry. As a blush, it can feel slightly tacky at first but wears beautifully throughout the workday for a youthful glow, blending easily with fingertips. On lips, the wear time is less (a couple hours), but it's attractive and moisturizing while it lasts.
As for the eyeshadow, which Tilbury proclaims is the "perfect balance of waxes and oils," it goes on really sheer and takes quite a bit of blending to make it look smooth. If you have oily skin, forget it—expect creasing within mere minutes. An eyeshadow primer helps, but even then, we found it difficult to build color. All in all, the eyeshadow portion is more difficult to use than it should be, and the ho-hum results just aren't worth it. Still, if you're curious, each shade has a metallic finish, and the color options include greenish-brown, champagne, bronze, and rose gold.
By the way, both formulas carry a light scent from the inclusion of the synthetic flavoring agent ethyl vanillin. It isn't overpowering and isn't cause for concern in regards to any potential to irritate skin.
The colors of the eyeshadow + lip/cheek duos pair better together than you might expect by just looking at them in the packaging, but keep in mind that as expensive as this duo is, if you only end up using one of them, it's a considerable waste of money. That's particularly concerning given the eyeshadow's subpar performance may cause you to do just that—hence why we're giving Filmstars On The Go an average rating. Charlotte Tilbury At-A-Glance
Charlotte Tilbury's journey into creating her own makeup line began back in her teen years when she discovered the transformative power of makeup. Fast-forward several years and celebrity clients later, Tilbury made a name for herself as a makeup artist who epitomized the glamorous beauty of the supermodel era in the 90s. Along the way, she became a consultant for beauty brands, and eventually decided to create her own line of makeup and select skincare products in 2013.
One of the strong suits of Charlotte Tilburys makeup is her take on color. The woman knows her way around flattering a complexion and making features pop, and you can see that in her shade range. That doesn't mean you wont find some misses along the way, but as a whole, the line offers an impressive selection of color.
Tilbury's skincare, on the other hand, doesn't fare quite as well. Between the use of jar packaging and some highly fragranced formulas, skin is left compromised (see individual reviews for details).
In no small way Tilbury's years of painting beautiful faces has helped shape what her makeup line is today. If you don't mind the $$$ factor, it's worth taking a look at the standouts which earn our highest rating.
Strengths: Excellent color selection; natural-looking foundation and concealer.
Weaknesses: The iconic Magic Cream comes in a jar; some highly fragranced formulas.
