Brand Overview

Charlotte Tilbury's Filmstar Bronze & Glow "Light to Medium" is a pressed powder bronzer and highlighter duo, encased in a lovely rose-gold compact with mirror. You'll be glad to know—just as we were pleased to discover—the product is more than a pretty package, as it performs just as well as it looks!

The powder bronzer's neutral medium-brown color is a godsend for those who struggle to find a natural-looking shade for their skin tone. It's not the least bit muddy or orange looking, and it has just a hint of finely-milled shimmer to "mimic a sun-kissed complexion." (We know a real tan doesn't have shimmer, but here, it serves to add a subtle glow to skin and is not in the least bit glittery.) While this shade of bronzer is particular suited for those with a light to medium skin tone, those with a deeper skin tone can also use it, as the sheer yet pigmented color is buildable.

The powder highlighting side of the duo is equally beautiful as it illuminates skin with a golden sheen of ultra-fine shimmer. Whether used alongside the bronzer or on its own, the glowing finish of this highlighter reflects light and beautifully accentuates cheekbones (or anywhere else on the face that you want to use it).

Filmstar Bronze & Glow is fragrance-free, and both the bronzer and highlighter have a soft pressed powder texture that is easily picked up on a brush. They apply and blend well, and when used together, they really do give skin that "beachy glow."

You certainly don't have to pay this much to get a good bronzer/highlighter set, but there's no denying that Filmstar Bronze & Glow is standout option to give skin a soft candlelit glow and subtle dimension!

Note: Although Charlotte Tilbury's Filmstar Bronze & Glow comes in a deeper shade (the recently released Medium to Dark), the stores we visited only carried the Light to Medium duo. When we can get our hands on Medium to Dark, we'll be sure to update our review. (However, if you've tried it, please share your comments!)

  • Bronzer's medium-brown color is ideal for light skin tones; not the least bit muddy or orange-looking.

  • Both powders are fragrance-free and have a soft pressed powder texture that applies and blends easily.
  • Used together they deliver a sunkissed glow as promised.
Cons:
  • None.

The bronzer is the perfect universal blend of pearl and pigment to contour features and mimic a sun-kissed complexion. The highlighter is built up from a golden base that flatters any skin tone, and uses Light Flex Technology to capture light and radiate it out for a luminous complexion. Colour-rich pigments are rolled into elastomer pearls that smooth & buff the skin for excellent blendability & perfect color uniformity.

Charlotte Tilbury At-A-Glance

Charlotte Tilburys journey into creating her own makeup line began back in her teen years when she discovered the transformative power of makeup. Fast-forward several years and celebrity clients later, Tilbury made a name for herself as a makeup artist who epitomized the glamorous beauty of the supermodel era in the 90s. Along the way, she became a consultant for beauty brands, and eventually decided to create her own line of makeup and select skincare products in 2013.

One of the strong suits of Charlotte Tilburys makeup is her take on color. The woman knows her way around flattering a complexion and making features pop, and you can see that in her shade range. That doesnt mean you wont find some misses along the way, but as a whole, the line offers an impressive selection of color.

Tilburys skincare, on the other hand, doesnt fare quite as well. Between the use of jar packaging and some highly fragranced formulas, skin is left compromised (see individual reviews for details).

In no small way Tilburys years of painting beautiful faces has helped shape what her makeup line is today. If you dont mind the $$$ factor, its worth taking a look at the standouts which earn our highest rating.

Strengths: Excellent color selection; natural-looking foundation and concealer.

Weaknesses: The iconic Magic Cream comes in a jar; some highly fragranced formulas.
