Etoile Facial Oil
Jordan Samuel is a small skincare brand that doesn't have a lot of products just yet, but what's offered now is largely good, as is the case with its Etoile Facial Oil.
This fairly-priced face oil omits potentially sensitizing fragrant oils like lavender or citrus oils that are included in many similar products, instead relying on a blend of antioxidant- and fatty-acid rich non-fragrant plant oils. Those with very dry and flaky skin will find this soothes and hydrates without irritation.
The texture is, of course, that of an oil, but it absorbs quickly. Used as directed (two or three drops all over the face), it doesn't have an overly greasy feel. Though labeled as facial oil, it works just as well to alleviate rough, dry skin on other areas of the body, too.
The only drawback is that this comes in a clear glass bottle that can compromise the effectiveness of the antioxidants. In order to preserve the antioxidant benefits, store the bottle away from light, which the brand (and we) recommend. Otherwise, this is a great addition to their current offering of facial oils.
- Contains a good mix of antioxidant-rich plant oils.
- Soothes dry, flaky skin.
- Sensibly priced.
- Fragrance free.
- Clear packaging means you must store it away from light.
Jordan Samuel Skin has a bit of an interesting origin story, in that the companys namesake creator didnt get his start in this skincare business instead, he was a professional ballet dancer in Seattle for a number of years before becoming an aesthetician. After spending a few years at different spas, Samuel opened his own, and eventually, created his line of skincare products. You can see his past experience reflected in the names of his products, as many are inspired by ballet terms.
The offerings are by no means expansive, since there are only four products in the lineup, but they are in general good. The only misstep is a cleanser that includes potentially aggravating citrus extracts. The other products, however, are straightforward yet well-thought out, including an oil-based retinol product thats a great starting point for those who havent used retinol before.
To sum up, the brands philosophy is en pointe (sorry, we couldnt resist!), and it will be interesting to see how this fan-favorite develops in the future.
